National Catholic Education Association to screen Award-winning documentary THE CALLING at Conference/Expo in New Orleans.
New York, NY (April 25, 2011) - The Calling an acclaimed documentary that explores the fundamental and enduring questions that provide meaning and value to our lives will be part of the presentations at the National Catholic Education Association's annual conference/expo, which will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans from April 26-28th. The screening will take place on 4/28/2011 @ 1:15 PM room 225. A Q&A with Director David A. Ranghelli will follow that will discuss how the film can complement the core spiritual and educational mission of Catholic institutions.
"We've had tremendous success sharing this film with audiences at colleges and universities from coast to coast," commented Director, David A. Ranghelli. "A film like this is ideal for getting young people to think about their faith, and what it means to truly live what you believe."
Since its release in the Summer of 2009, The Calling has gained much praise for it's honest and sincere portrayal of religious life. John Mulderig of the Catholic News Service declares, "this is a moving study of sacred aspirations and the courageous commitment required to fulfill them." Fr. Paul Holmes, VP of Seton Hall University affirms "The Calling is a marvelous vehicle for colleges and universities to stimulate a conversation that thoughtfully considers God's personal call." And Deacon Keith Fournier of Catholic Online has proclaimed it, "A Masterpiece!"
To date (71) Catholic/Theological academic institutions have incorporated The Calling into their curriculums. And (15) institutions have hosted screening/discussion events on campus, including: SETON HALL UNIVERSITY, BOSTON COLLEGE, the UNIVERSITY of PORTLAND, DREW UNIVERSITY, and the LOYOLA UNIVERSITY - NEW ORLEANS to name a few. The Media-Literacy component was created with the assistance of leading clergy/scholars, and has applications useful for courses in: Theology/Religious Studies, Latino Studies, Philosophy, Sociology, Film/Media Studies, Peace/Justice Studies, and for Campus Ministries.
