Juventutem USA Prepares for World Youth Day 2011

WASHINGTON, DC (April 11, 2011) - 'Juventutem', the international movement of those Catholic youth who are attracted to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite will once again take part in World Youth Day in Madrid this August. Juventutem was formed in 2004 and made it's debut at World Youth Day in Cologne in 2005 and had a presence again in Melbourne in 2008. The traditional liturgy provides the foundation for the spiritual formation of the youth of Juventutem which is devoted to the sanctification of the youth through the traditional Roman Catholic means. WYD provides an opportunity for members of Juventutem to express their fidelity to the Holy Father and is an opportunity for young Catholic from different nations to form friendships and share their liturgical heritage with other youth who may not be aware of the beauty of this liturgy.
A retreat week (August 9-15) preceeding World Youth Day will take place at a former convent for Discalced Carmelites at Amorebieta-Etxano, near Bilbao in Northern Spain. Traditional Mass, Lauds, Rosary and Compline, as well as spiritual confereneces will prepare the youth to give an appropriate witness at Madrid the following week (August 16-21). We will also enjoy: a pilgrimage to Azpeitia, the Shrine of St. Ignatius Loyola, hiking in the mountains of Urkiola, visiting the Bizkaian coast's beaches, possible excursion to Avila, Segovia, Monasterio de Santo Dominigo de Silos and Caleruega, the birthplace of St. Dominc of Guzman.
Juventutem pilgrims will also be present at all the Papal functions: the Pope's official arrival in Madrid, the Stations of the Cross, the Eucharistic Vigil and the final Mass.
Fr. Armand de Malleray (FSSP), Ecclesiastical assistant to the International Federation Juventutem and former Secretary General of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter will be present as well as other priests from the order and chaperones.
The cost for the complete pilgrimage is $3000.00 and options for selected portions of the trip. The pilgrimage leaves from Washington, DC to Madrid on August 7th and returns to Washington on August 25th. Please register as soon as possible.
