In Sacred Journey: Pilgrimage to the Stations of the Cross in Jerusalem, (Nicolas-Hays, Inc., distributed by Red Wheel/Weiser), internationally-renowned photographer and author Steven Brooke focuses his award-winning lens to document the actual path walked by Christ in the ancient Holy City to his Crucifixion. Brooke's exceptional photographs offer his readers an unprecedented window into the hallowed sites of Christ's last journey.
Sacred Journey's breathtaking images illustrate the sites of the fourteen Stations in Jerusalem with scholarly accuracy and artistic sensitivity. They are accompanied by traditional prayers and descriptive text, providing insight into their history and the history of pilgrimage. Brooke's evocative photographs of ancient streets, shrines, and chapels, encourage readers to embark on their own spiritual journey.
Brooke offers a detailed history of the Stations of the Cross dating from the fifth to the twentieth century. Also featured are traditional hymns and prayers, quotations from the Bible, maps that guide readers along the way, as well as a bibliography and suggested reading list.
Steven Brooke is a Fellow of the Albright Institute for Archaeological Research Jerusalem; a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome; and recipient of the American Institute of Architects National Award for Photography. He has photographed 36 books on architecture and design, nine of which he has also authored. His highly acclaimed books on Rome and Jerusalem, photographed in the tradition of the eighteenth and nineteenth-century view-painters of Europe, were the first of their kind in decades.
