'Bathrom Bill' C-389 passes House - battle moves to the Senate

TORONTO, CANADA (February 15, 2011) - On February 9, 2011 the ultra-radical transsexual and transgender "rights" bill, C-389, passed third reading in the House of Commons by merely 8 votes, in a count of 143-135. Unfortunately, the bill now advances to a vote in the Senate. If it gets passed there, it will become the law of the nation, enshrining the ambiguous terms of "gender identity" and "gender expression" in the Canadian Human Rights Act and in the Criminal Code as protected groups.

It is worthwhile noting that of the 18 MPs who were absent or abstained, 8 were Conservatives (Ambrose, Blaney, Genereux, Lauzon, Miller, Scheer, Shipley) and 2 were pro-life Liberals (Szabo, Guarnieri). Had these 8 voted "No", this deplorable bill had a very good chance of being defeated.

C-389 will enshrine in law the idea that there is more than one gender (i.e. male or female), and that gender can change back and forth, or be somewhere in between, depending how a person "feels" at any given time. Having acquired moral legitimacy, this bizarre philosophy will then creep into school curriculum and elementary school textbooks. In fact, Ontario's Dalton McGuinty already has a "Full Day Kindergarten Program" that requires teachers to combat "preconceived notions about children's gender".

Questions of gender identity are listed in the handbook currently used by psychiatrists, the DSM, as a mental disorder. By putting the government's seal of approval on transsexualism, transgenderism and cross-dressing, government will have placed itself in the business of encouraging mental illness. This will foreseeably lead to youth being discouraged from seeking treatment for their gender identity confusion and instead, being told to accept it as normal, natural and healthy. Do we care so little about our youth that we will allow them to be experimented upon in this manner?

Please encourage Canada's Senators to vote against "Bathroom" Bill C-389. First of all, phone them with your concerns. Then write, email or visit with as many Senators as possible. We recommend a short message like the following:

"Dear Senator,

I am opposed to the transsexual Bill C-389. By putting the ill-defined terms of "gender identity" and "gender expression" into the Canadian Human Rights Act and Criminal Code, we will create a host of unintended consequences. It will create a legal right for men who identify as women to use female bathrooms. It will create a legal nightmare for businesses who will face human rights complaints if they do not allow cross-dressing and similar "gender expression" with clients or in the office. Businesses will be required to allow these gender-confused men into women's bathrooms, or otherwise to construct special 'free-for-all' washrooms. It will also lead to demands by radical activists to include transgenderism lessons in elementary school textbooks.

I urge you to put common sense ahead of political correctness. Please vote against C-389.
