Catholic Schools K12 Virtual, CSK12.com, celebrates Catholic Schools Week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Miami, FL (January 31, 2011) - As Catholic School's week begins, Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski of Miami is inviting the faithful Catholic to visit CSK12.com, Catholic Schools K-12 Virtual, to experience the unique opportunities it offers our Catholic schools and students in this digital age.
The fully accredited, international virtual school was founded by Father George Puthusseril, Judicial Vicar for the Archdiocese of Miami, Florida as a way to deliver high quality Catholic education and services at a reasonable cost during a weak economy. The school's innovative techniques in teaching were recognized in a new education guidebook, Saving Our Urban Catholic Schools published by Philanthropy Roundtable in Washington, D.C.
Archbishop Wenski noted that Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI said in his 2010 Communication's Day address that priests are challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources, including videos, animated features and blogs.
"It is our responsibility to provide students a strong foundation, rooted in our Catholic teaching and tradition, in a safe digital environment where they can flourish academically, spiritually and socially," Wenski said. "Using CSK12.com, schools can explore digital resources, use approved digital content in every subject area, access top quality providers online and create a fully Catholic environment for their students."
The core mission of the school is to partner with existing Catholic schools so they can extend their reach, and broaden their curriculum offerings without the added expense of staffing high end, small class loads. CSK12 offers a cost effective alternative for small advanced classes and summer school programs. In addition to traditional schools, others such as homeschool families, missionaries and hospital-homebound programs also use CSK12.com.
"It may not be practical to build Catholic Schools everywhere but with the technology available today, we can bring the excellence of a Catholic education to any family who wants it," Father George said. "Technology eliminates the physical or geographical boundaries traditionally associated with accessing brick and mortar schools."
“CSK12 now has partner schools serving students in 18 states, China, Spain, Venezuela and Belize and is growing daily,” said the school's executive director Trina Trimm. “Our students are living in a digital age, and our schools and families are recognizing the need to provide alternative, engaging content and methodologies for our students. Our goal is to help all Catholic students to experience high quality digital content, in a Catholic web-based environment.”
