Saying Yes To Christ at Christmas

ANTIGUA, Guatemala (December 2, 2010) - A special plea from The GOD'S CHILD Project

The Christmas Story is a very old story we tell again and again this time of year. But it's a story
that is still happening today. All over the world young parents are still searching for a place
to stay. Mostly, they are told, "there's no room here." Like an in keeper two millenniums ago,
The international charity The GOD'S CHILD Project is here to say "yes" when everyone else
says "no".

When Tropical Storm Agatha struck Guatemala Wendy and Ivan, a newly wed couple with a
young child lost everything. With the clothes on their backs they walked through the country
looking for a place to stay. At every door they were turned away. Wendy was pregnant with her
second child; Ivan worried how he would take care of his growing family.

2,000 years ago in the little town of Bethlehem a poor, humble couple had they same concern as
Wendy and Ivan. Mary and Joseph wandered by night and wondered how they would take care
of their soon to be born baby without a proper place to stay.

Everywhere they went they were turned away. But finally, one kind soul said "yes" and on a
quiet night the child who would redeem the world was born. All because an innkeeper said "yes"
to Holy Family.

In the same way, when Ivan and Wendy knocked on the door of The GOD'S CHILD Project
we said yes to them. Instead of seeing a dirt poor, homeless family we saw Christ in them and
said yes.

We gave them food and clothing and built them a house. A few weeks later a baby boy was born
healthy in the highlands of Guatemala.

Like Mary and Joseph, like Wendy and Ivan; it is now us at The GOD'S CHILD Project who
are knocking at every door. The current economic conditions have devastated our donations.
Worldwide 5,000 orphaned, abandoned, and poor children are depending on us to take care of
them. In each child we look and see Christ's face looking back at us.
