Film Competition Allows Young Church to 'Be Witnesses of Christian Hope'
Goodness Reigns sponsors film contest; winners going to World Youth Day

LOUISVILLE, KY (September 28, 2010) - Through the Goodness Reigns: Share the Story film competition, youth and young adults can act on Pope Benedict XVI's recent challenge to share with the world "the treasure" that is Jesus Christ.

The Holy Father presented his appeal while explaining the theme for the upcoming World Youth Day (WYD), Aug. 16-21, 2011, in Madrid, Spain. The theme is "Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in faith." (cf. Col. 2:7)

"In our age of globalization, be witnesses of Christian hope all over the world." The Holy Father exhorted. "How many people long to receive this hope!"

One place where many teens and young adults often meet today is online, making the Internet a ripe avenue for evangelization. Goodness Reigns: Share the Story fuses Pope Benedict's desire to evangelize with a short-film contest that presents an opportunity for the young Church to grow in and share the Catholic Faith through their own videos. These videos will be available to everyone online once the contest winners are announced in spring 2011.

Winners of the Goodness Reigns short-film contest will receive all-inclusive travel packages to World Youth Day, or opting to receive significant video equipment packages if they are unable to travel.

Films should be no more than seven minutes in length and pertain to one of four categories:

• Church history (including Bible stories and lives of the saints)
• Sacraments of the Church
• Church teachings
• Present-day missionary spirit of an individual or ministry of the church

The global contest offers awards in three divisions.

Individual Category Awards (Open to anyone age 14 and up)
One winner will be selected from each of the above categories. The winner and one guest/parent will receive free travel packages to World Youth Day 2011; or winners unable to travel may choose to receive video equipment packages each valued at $4,000.

The High School Class or Youth Group Award
One group of teens and chaperones (up to 10 people) will be selected from all entrants to receive free travel packages to WYD 2011; or the group may select a video equipment package worth up to $15,000.

Young Adult Group Award (Ages 18-30)
One group of four young adults will be selected from all entrants to receive free travel packages to WYD 2011; or they may select a video equipment package worth up to $8,000.

Contest winners choosing to attend World Youth Day 2011 will travel with Youth in Europe (www.youthineurope.com).
