LOS ANGELES, CA (November 25, 2009) - Family Theater Productions’ Hollywood Prays offers spiritual support to young Catholics in entertainment industry
Featuring Prayer and Pasta, Going Deeper seminar, Theology of the Body study group, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
HOLLYWOOD – Family Theater Productions, the historic, Hollywood-based film, television and radio production organization which also conducts prayer and spiritual outreach ministries to the Hollywood Catholic community, announced its Hollywood Prays programs for the 2009-2010 season.
This 62-year-old Catholic production ministry, under the direction of Holy Cross Father Willy Raymond, CSC, launched this outreach ministry to the entertainment industry in July 2002. Hollywood Prays encompasses a variety of spiritual exercises, including Prayer-and-Pasta nights for young people in the media industry, Theology of the Body and “Going Deeper” sessions, and a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program to signal to Catholics in the entertainment industry that they have a spiritual home in Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard.
“What began as a private prayer group for 8-10 people has now grown to a monthly faith-sharing experience for a large number of young Hollywood professionals over the past seven years,” notes Father Raymond. “Our goal at Family Theater is to support and sustain them in their faith as they pursue their careers in a very challenging work environment.”
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Family Theater continued its Prayer-and-Pasta program, a monthly open house, usually the third Wednesday of the month, 7 - 10 p.m., where industry newcomers can find hospitality and spiritual nourishment for body, soul and spirit. Joining Family Theater staff and other entertainment industry professionals, participants enjoy an evening of prayer and meditation open to all members of the entertainment industry.
Noted industry veterans and spiritual leaders often join the young participants to offer insight, encouragement and direction in a friendly dialogue over dinner. The format of the evening is a celebration of prayer from the rich variety of the Catholic tradition accompanied by live music and singing. Following the spiritual exercise, guests share a meal of pasta and red wine.
On Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, Hollywood Prays will begin a special thrice monthly program featuring Leo Severino, an attorney formerly with Fox Entertainment and now a film producer and president of Metanoia Films (Bella), and the manager of Mexican actor and inspirational speaker Eduardo Verástegui (Bella). Called “Going Deeper” into the Catholic faith, this challenging and enriching program begins with human reason and moves on to the revelation of God's grace in Scripture, Tradition and the ongoing revelation in the Church guided by the Holy Spirit. It will meet each Wednesday except the third Wednesday of the month from 7:30 - 9 p.m.
Family Theater Productions also presents Pope John Paul’s Theology of the Body, a radical and positive understanding of human sexuality in the context of faith. The late pope used philosophy, Sacred Scripture and his own pastoral experience with university students and young married couples to explore the harmony and dignity of the human person in relationship to God and to others.
Small groups reflecting on the Theology of the Body are presently meeting in more than 20 metropolitan areas in the United States. At Family Theater, as in most places, a weekly study group examines and discusses the various topics raised by the Holy Father. Remaining sessions in this latest series will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, Wednesday, Dec. 2 and concluding on Wednesday, Dec. 9. These sessions start with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by the presentation at 8 p.m. Tentative plans are being made to begin a monthly multi-media Theology of the Body program in the new year.
In 2002, Family Theater Productions began conducting an annual Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) to accommodate the special needs of men and women in the entertainment industry seeking to explore the Catholic faith or to gain full communion with the Catholic Church. The weekly RCIA sessions begin in the fall and reach a conclusion for most at Easter or Pentecost. The content of the program is the faith conveyed through great literature, art and film. The day and time are flexible to meet the special needs of the participants. (Call 1-800-874-0999 for dates and times.)
This year’s sessions are being led by Barbara Nicolosi, founder of Act One, which mentors Christians for careers in mainstream film and television. She is also co-writer of the feature film, Mary Mother of Christ, currently in pre-production and starring Al Pacino, Camilla Belle, Peter O’Toole ...
Comments
It is great to know that you are doing something for the Holywood community. I am impressed that you have RCIA - a passion of mine. I have been directing and coordinating the RCIA process since the early 80's. If you need a person to direct it for your community, I would be interested in the position. I have a degree: Doctor in Ministry.
Also I have a son who has a degree in Film and Television. He has been looking for a job in this area since he graduated in May 2006. Do you have a place for him? His specialty is editing. I thought I would put this one in here...in case you could help. After all what are mothers for...Thank you so much.
Thank you
