FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Irondale, AL (EWTN) - EWTN Global Catholic Network will air several new series and specials on television, radio and the internet (www.ewtn.com ) this fall according to Doug Keck, Vice President of Programming and Production.

"Headlining our specials' calendar are two major events in October: first, the Mass on October 16th, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the selection of Polish Cardinal, Karol Wojtyla, as Pope John Paul II; then, on October 19th, the much anticipated Beatification of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. EWTN will take you to the heart of both of these celebrations live from St. Peter's in Rome."

One of EWTN's longtime favorite hosts, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, recently completed a new series shot on location in Portugal, called Fatima: Heaven's Peace Plan. Keck says, "Fr. Apostoli's many series on EWTN, including those on Mother Teresa, Padre Pio, and Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, along with his retreats and parish missions, have endeared him to millions of viewers and listeners around the world."

Two of England's popular historians and authors, James and Joanna Bogle, take a scholarly look at Catholic history, from the birth of Christ to the present, in their new series titled, Catholicism: the Heart of History. Joanna Bogle says, "We've come to set the record straight and we're also trying to explain that the truth is so much more exciting than a lot of myths." James Bogle adds, "Schools tend to teach things that aren't entirely accurate and don't necessarily reflect the real involvement of the Catholic Church in history. We're trying to rectify that."

Deacon Keith Fournier Hi readers, it seems you use Catholic Online a lot; that's great! It's a little awkward to ask, but we need your help. If you have already donated, we sincerely thank you. We're not salespeople, but we depend on donations averaging $14.76 and fewer than 1% of readers give. If you donate just $5.00, the price of your coffee, Catholic Online School could keep thriving. Journey Home, beginning its 6th year with host Marcus Grodi, brings to EWTN another exciting season of conversion stories of men and women who, as a result of their surrender to Jesus Christ, heard the call to follow Him more completely into the Catholic Church. Grodi says, "Journey Home also has some exciting programs scheduled about Catholics who left the Church for many reasons and now, because of God's grace, have returned."

Keck says new "classic" episodes of Mother Angelica Live will begin airing in September, with Deacon Bill Steltemeier providing updates on Mother Angelica's health as well as other family news.

A mainstay of EWTN programming for many years, Fr. George Rutler, returns this season with a new series shot on location in his New York City parish church, appropriately titled, Christ in the City. He brings his knowledge of Church music, art, and architecture to the audience, along with inspiring talks on doctrine and theology.

Fr. Mitch Pacwa continues hosting the popular call-in show, EWTN Live, on Wednesday evenings. Says Fr. Mitch, "We'll see a bit of an international flair with Fr. Henri Boulad, a French Jesuit born in Alexandria, Egypt, who studied theology in Lebanon. His discussion of mission work and how spirituality can elevate social action to something new and completely different, should make for a great program. We will also have some old favorites - Fr. Emmerich Vogt, Dr. Dolores Grier, Bert Ghezzi and Johnnette Benkovic - a lot to look forward to." Fr. Pacwa also hosts the Tuesday night series, Threshold of Hope, in which he talks about the Pope's writings while engaging the studio audience in lively Q &A sessions.

Thursday nights will take on a different look at Life on the Rock, hosted by Fr. Francis Mary Stone of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word. Says Fr. Francis, "After six years in the coffeehouse, we're moving out, taking a hike; all of us are grabbing our backpacks and our hiking boots and we're heading to a retreat center-like atmosphere in the mountain." He continues, "We will present the same type of guests as always...along with some surprises...and, we will have John Martignoni continue his work in apologetics. So get your gear ready and come with us as we move to the mountains."

In addition to his popular weekly catechetical teaching, Fr. John Corapi will present a new series filled with his own unique style of powerhouse preaching. Subjects range from the Rosary - to heaven and hell, the priesthood - to confession and humility. "The Holy Spirit we've been given is no cowardly spirit. Sometimes the Holy Spirit will hurl you into things that you think you're not ready for..." asserts Fr. Corapi.

Sister Joan Noreen's Eucharistic Journey series has been a popular part of EWTN's programming lineup for many years and this fall will feature all-new episodes. Sr. Joan explains, "This series is a call to the whole Church -- a reminder of our universal call to holiness and, in a special way, a call to the laity to be leaders in the renewal and reform of the Church and society."

Popular series such as Onward Pilgrims, Council of Faith with Fr. John Trigilio, Mysteries of the Rosary with Fr. Jacques Daley and Inside St. Patrick's Cathedral with perennial favorite Msgr. Eugene Clark, will all return this season with new episodes.

Archbishop Justin Rigali, recently appointed by Pope John Paul II as the successor to Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua of Philadelphia, shares his insights and memories of attending the Second Vatican Council in his new series, The Catholic Faith and Vatican II. Archbishop Rigali says, "We're convinced that Vatican II has been a great grace for the entire Church, but it is still part of the task of the Church to apply everything that has come to us from Vatican II, and that task is ongoing. There's a great depth of spirituality that is contained in Vatican II. There is a great depth of teaching and all of this is a treasure that we must continually uncover and continually apply to our lives as Catholics."

Lord David Alton, a member of the British House of Lords, takes an extraordinary look at the state of religious freedom and Christian persecution in today's world with The Suffering Church. "A major purpose of this series is to encourage us to take a stand today for those whose persecution often goes unremarked..." says Lord Alton.

EWTNews director Raymond Arroyo gives a glimpse of what is planned for The World Over Live. Arroyo says, "In addition to the papal 25th anniversary celebration from Rome and the beatification of Mother Teresa, we will cover the Fall Conference of Catholic Bishops which we bring you every November. And to usher in the season, September 5th's World Over will highlight Arroyo's exclusive one-on-one interview with Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger taped in Rome.

Children can tune in to EWTN's Faith Factory Saturday mornings, featuring new and exciting episodes of programs such as The Story Keepers, Image of God, and Angel Force.

Keck adds, "In addition to the new series we've mentioned, listeners to EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network will have the all-new EWTN Open Line, a live radio call-in show. Five days a week, listeners can chat with popular EWTN personalities like Marcus Grodi, Barbara McGuigan, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, apologist John Martignoni, and theologian Colin Donovan on a variety of Catholic topics."
