As Church Celebrates Priesthood, Institute Seeks to Support & Strengthen Clergy Leadership

EXTON, PA (June 17, 2009) - As the Catholic Church opens the year of the priest, Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) has been blessed to minister to 32 dioceses and over 800 priests nationwide through the leadership curriculum, Good Leaders, Good Shepherds (GLGS), a unique and dynamic two-year formation and fraternal experience for priests.

Since 2006, the Institute has helped priests to embrace more fully their extraordinary vocation by guiding them to recognize their God-given potential and develop their leadership skills so they can effectively and confidently lead their faith communities in carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. "Catholic Leadership Institute's Good Leaders, Good Shepherds celebrates the priesthood as it seeks to develop happier, healthier and holier men of God. We are blessed to work with bishops and their presbyterates to enrich the lives of men who are called to serve the Church as both leader and shepherd," said Timothy Flanagan, Founder and Chairman of Catholic Leadership Institute.

Catholic Leadership Institute's unique approach to leadership has given priests a renewed vision for their priesthood, their parishes and their local Church. Recently, twenty men from the Archdiocese of Boston became the second class in the diocese (7th nationwide) to complete Good Leaders, Good Shepherds. In a letter to his men, His Eminence Cardinal Seán O'Malley shared this with the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston. "As we prepare for the Year of the Priest, it is good to know that Good Leaders, Good Shepherds has helped you to strengthen your priestly fraternity.

By working together we can be a model of collaboration for the people we serve and build up the spiritual renewal that is taking place in our Archdiocese." Good Leaders, Good Shepherds is designed to equip clergy with the relevant, practical and pastoral leadership skills necessary to shepherd a parish and support the governing office of their priesthood. During the two-year program priests learn about the various contexts in which they lead, and specific skill sets within each context that will help them lead most effectively.
