Franciscan Sisters feature 'January Song' for this month's free download

GREEN BAY, WI (JANUARY 5, 2009) - The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity feature Catherine MacLennan's "January Song" as their song of the month, a free download at their discernment site www.fscc-calledtobe.org/living.

Singer songwriter MacLennan observed that she wrote most songs on her album 'Church Bell Blues' "in the winter or the fall, when everything is dying and really quiet. It definitely represents the mood. I definitely write about my personal experience, and I find people seem to respond by relating it to their own personal situations. That way, the songs are not necessarily just about me, and that's what you aim for."

Her music is a characteristic of the work of many of the singer/songwriters she cites as influences and inspirations: Joni Mitchell and Townes Van Zandt. She's the daughter of Canadian music legend, singer/songwriter Gene MacLennan, writer of such 70s hit songs as "Snowbird" (recorded by Elvis Presley and Anne Murray)

The accompanying Image of the month is 'Happy Birthday Rio De Janeiro" by Osmar Shineidr, a photo of the Christ the Redeemer statue. Shineidr said that "it's just a representation to the immense love I have for my city, with the many aspects that makes it beautiful: the religions, our balance between the nature that is everywhere sharing its space with buildings, poverty and richness, and yet the love for the beach and the sunny days joining them all, just like if there was no difference at all, the lovely and kind people I still find here."

The "Franciscanized World" page is designed to help discerning women see the world as Saints Francis and Clare did - realistically, compassionately, finding good and holy possibility in the substance and culture of everyday life. Sr. Julie Ann Sheahan, OSF, Directress of Vocations for the Franciscan Order said "We want to present our life as a viable option for young women. Personal invitation is always best; however, we became convinced that real conversations can begin by using the language of images and music."
