Allentown Diocese Native Wants to do Her Part to Increase Vocations

Mom-preneur benefits Office of Vocations with sales of handmade rosaries... and lots of prayers!

Coatesville, PA, USA - May 18, 2008 - The 6pm news from Philadelphia this weekend featured a bittersweet headline for Catholics: "Three men ordained to priesthood in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia." For many Catholics, the joy and gratitude inspired by these men's ordination gave way quickly to a sense of anxiety and the inevitable question, "Why so few?" With more headlines of vocation shortages and parish closings, many begin to wonder what is to become of the Church in America.

But Laina Yeisley, 30, a mom and crafter from Coatesville, PA, has hope. Her younger brother, Joseph Grabowski, 24, of Minersville, PA, has just completed his fifth year of study for the priesthood in the Diocese of Allentown. "Knowing Joe and his classmates gives me faith in God's plan for the future of our Church," says Yeisley. "There are good men following the call, and there are great vocations programs to help them along." Nevertheless, beginning about two years ago, Yeisley began wondering whether she personally was doing enough to support these future priests.

Yeisley admits that it was a time in her life when she was struggling with prayer and reflection that Grabowski suggested she try making twine knotted rosaries to aid in meditation. "It helped... immensely, but," continues Yeisley, "I'm such a perfectionist, and I got too wrapped up in getting all my knots perfect." Just a few weeks later, her passion for crafting drew her to a class at a local craft store where she learned how to string beads with chain and wire. She immediately saw the possibilities for rosaries as she gazed at aisles of beads. When her friends and family wanted to buy her first few creations, she knew she had found the answer to her question.

With Love from Mom, Yeisley's home-run crafting business, was officially launched in January of 2008. Through her website and at craft shows throughout Pennsylvania, Yeisley sells handmade rosaries, chaplets and jewelry. Featuring one-of-a-kind heirloom quality rosaries, products also include collections especially for sacraments and special intentions spanning all price ranges and interests. 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Diocese of Allentown's Office of Vocations. For Yeisley, each creation is a labor of love and prayer; and despite little advertising, in just a few short months those prayers have paid off. With Love from Mom's online sales have already generated over $100 toward its charitable cause, and the future of her business looks bright. Yeisley prays that her own efforts will also help in some way to brighten the future of the Church she so deeply loves and the young men who dedicate themselves to its service.
