DAYTON, OH (APRIL 2, 2008) -- The National Catholic Educational Association honored Sister Angela Ann Zukowski, director of the Institute for Pastoral Initiatives at the University of Dayton, for her contribution to Catholic boards of education across the United States.

The NCAE Department of Boards and Councils awarded Zukowski, a member of the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, the 2008 O'Neil D'Amour Award last week.

The department presents the award annually to recognize an individual's outstanding contribution of statewide, regional, national or international significance to boards of Catholic education, said Regina Haney, executive director of the department.

Zukowski's work developing people who are not professional educators to share in the ministry of governing Catholic schools and education programs earned her the award, Haney said.

"For many years, Sister Angela Ann has helped the department to understand the trends of emerging technology and show how to apply technology to current situations," she said. Most recently, Zukowski led the development of online seminars to train school board members. Since the online seminars began three years ago, more than 175 board members from 22 states have participated.

Zukowski is a professor in the department of religious studies at UD, a former member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and former world president of the International Catholic Association for Radio and Television. She has given national and international presentations on catechetics, ministry and religious communication. She is the author of numerous articles on communications and writes a regular column on technology trends for Momentum, NCEA's official journals.

NCEA is the world's largest professional association for private education. The association represents more than 200,000 educators serving 7.6 million students at all levels of Catholic education.
