World Day Of Prayer For Priests Theme 2006

Dublin, Ireland, June 19, 2006--a media blitz pouring out of an Irish communications company--Quantum Universal a registered charity--seeks to increase international participation in a global challenge issued by the late Pope John Paul II. It was the former Pontiff's dream to have Catholic faithful of the world join in prayer for the sanctification of their priests on one particular day of the year specifically earmarked for that purpose. The annual World Day of Prayer for Priests began in 2002 and Quantum's massive international campaign seeks to increase the number of people and countries participating in 2006.

Quantum said it was the late Pontiff's express desire that the celebration of the World Day of Prayer for Priests would coincide with the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the first priest. The Feast of the Sacred Heart is always celebrated on the tenth Friday after Easter Sunday and is celebrated this year on June 23. June 23 also marks the 150th anniversary this year of the familiar devotion, especially popular here in Ireland. "More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of," the late Pontiff has said. Quantum's campaign for the World Day of Prayer for Priests is simultaneously active in the U.S., India, South Africa, Australia and Europe.

The theme for this year's World Day of Prayer for Priests, issued by the Vatican's Congregation for the Clergy, "I have called you friends." The theme is based on a homily delivered by Pope Benedict XVI at the annual Chrism Mass he concelebrated at St. Peter's in Rome this past Holy Thursday. That liturgy commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood in a special way. Pope Benedict said, "Being friends with Jesus is par excellence always friendship with his followers. We can be friends of Jesus only in communion with the whole of Christ, with the Head and with the Body."

Quantum's unique international campaign includes a specially designed new web site, www.worldpriestday.com. The site offers a specially-composed Prayer for Priests, suggestions for parish activities, e-cards for laity to send their thanks to clergy as well as a children's section. Clergy and laity are invited to log on and share stories of the impact and significance of priesthood in their lives. The site invites free downloading of the prayer card and poster available in six languages including English, Spanish, German, Italian, French and Portuguese to maximize global participation. Additionally, the site also invites participating faithful to stop for a moment at 3 PM local time and reflect thankfully on the presence of priestly ministry in their lives.

A special section can be downloaded for children to partake in and to learn more about our priests and their ministry on and for for this special day, by colouring in posters with special messages of gratitude to be personally signed by a child or teenager and given to their local priest.

Here in Ireland, Quantum has arranged for 500,000 free full-color prayer cards as well as thousands of full color posters to be distributed to all Catholic diocese and parishes over the coming days in preparation of World Day of Prayer for Priests and to all main Marian shrines World Wide. Full page ads have been taken in the Irish Catholic and secular press. Irish faithful are encouraged to look for the prayer cards in their local parishes and join the global family of faithful in praying for priests.
