Pope Francis to Lead World in Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace

WATERTOWN, MA (October 3, 2013) Pope Francis has called for a Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace in Syria, the Middle East, and the world to be held on September 7, 2013, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace.

The CatholicTV Network will air this event live at 1PM ET. The event will rebroadcast at 7:30PM on Saturday, September 7th, immediately following the Mass from the National Shrine.

The Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace in Syria has been announced as the devastation and suffering of the Syrian people continues.

The Holy Father urged the faithful of Rome and pilgrims to the city to participate in the prayer vigil to be held in St. Peter's Square starting at 7 PM Rome Time and continuing until midnight. The Holy Father concluded, “This coming Saturday we will live together a special day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world. I renew the invitation to the whole Church to live this day intensely, and even now I express gratitude to the other Christian brethren, to the brethren of other religions and to the men and women of good will who desire to join in this initiative, in places and ways of their own. I especially urge the Roman faithful and pilgrims to participate in the prayer vigil here in St. Peter's Square in order to ask the Lord for the great gift of peace. May a powerful cry for peace go up from every land!”

The Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace in Syria will be available live on The CatholicTV Network on September 7, 2013. The CatholicTV Network is available to Comcast subscribers throughout New England on Channel 268 (in Plymouth and Amesbury, MA on Ch. 183), on Verizon FiOS Ch. 296, Charter Communications Ch. 101, RCN Ch. 85, on various other providers and on Roku and Google TV.
