NASHVILLE, TN (February 16, 2012) - An all-star ensemble cast brings to life the inspiring true story of THE MIGHTY MACS, debuting Feb. 21, 2012, on DVD from Provident Distribution and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The improbable story of a tiny, all-girls Catholic college winning the first national championship in women's basketball stars Carla Gugino (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM), Marley Shelton (NEVER BEEN KISSED), David Boreanaz (TV’s Bones), Phyllis Somerville (TV’s The Big C) and Academy Award® winner Ellen Burstyn (Best Actress, ALICE DOESN’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE, 1974).
Bonus materials include the behind-the-scenes featurette The Making of THE MIGHTY MACS, deleted scenes and THE MIGHTY MACS ESPN segment. THE MIGHTY MACS will be available on DVD for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $22.99.
Based on a true story, THE MIGHTY MACS was inspired by Hall of Fame Coach Cathy Rush – a woman ahead of her time – who took a seemingly unnoticeable position as the head basketball coach at tiny Immaculata, an all-girls Catholic college in suburban Philadelphia.
Courage and determination helped her overcome a myriad of obstacles and in the end lead a ragtag group of girls to the first-ever national championship in women’s college basketball.
Catholic leaders across the country hail THE MIGHTY MACS for its inspirational and uplifting qualities.
“(The Mighty Macs is) a wonderful movie of hope, commitment and belief in self and others,” said Most Rev. Martin Amos, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Davenport, Ia.
“(It’s) “A feel good movie for everyone,” said Sister Mary Ann Walsh, Director of Media Relations for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
“(The Mighty Macs is) a story that tells the power of unwavering commitment,” said Most Rev. Mark Seitz, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas.
