Outstanding Catholic Doctor to be Honored with National Award

"World of Difference" Award to be presented October 16, 2011
LOS ANGELES, CA (September 20, 2011) - Mission Doctors Association will recognize the work of Peter J. Daly, M.D. of St. Paul, MN, as the 2011 Catholic Doctor of the Year, with the "World of Difference Award", to be presented October 16, 2011, at the Los Angeles Archdiocese White Mass at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena, CA.
Having sent out more than 1000 nominations nationally, the assignment of choosing one deserving physician among the many was challenging. These deserving doctors with diverse experience and involvement made it difficult to choose only one to recognize. Candidates included individuals working with indigent populations and the under-served in the United States, as well as doctors who have served as medical missionaries in countries around the world.
Currently president of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Catholic Medical Association Guild, Dr. Daly is being recognized with this award for his commitment to his own community which has taken the form of providing volunteer orthopedic surgery for St. Mary's Free Health Center in Minneapolis / St. Paul, his work at St. Lucia West Indies, Haiti, and the founding of the Holy Family Surgery Center in Honduras. Former Chief of Staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Paul, as well as former president of the Ramsey County Medical Society, Dr. Daly has organized numerous medical missions to Honduras, most recently organizing brigades with urologists, ENT and general surgeons. Mission Doctors Association will recognize his efforts and note that he has truly made a "World of Difference".

Dr. Daly was nominated by Sylvia Harrington and Mike Torchia, who have worked with Dr. Daly in Honduras. Mikenoted "Dr. Daly has been a tireless upholder of the Catholic faith and an inspiration to both the Catholic and medical community".
A member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Peter Daly attended the University of Notre Dame, received his Medical Degree from Mayo Medical School, MN and the Rowe Shoulder Fellowship at Harvard. Dr. Daly was named to the list of 'Best Doctors in America' by the Best Doctors, Inc., an honor only given to the top five percent of doctors.
Together with his wife, Florence (LuLu) Romano Daly, RN, BSN, and their four children, Talia, Patricia, Michael and Patrick, the entire family has been involved with the work in Honduras, both directly and with fundraising activities at home.
The Dalys are members of the Lumen Christi Catholic Community in St. Paul, MN. Dr. Daly said he is very honored and humbled with this recognition. Mission Doctors Association, which was founded in 1959 to support the work of Catholic Doctors and their families serving in mission hospitals and clinics, welcomes the opportunity to recognize this outstanding physician.
This is the only National Catholic Doctor Award, and one that Mission Doctors Association is proud to present. Executive Director, Elise Frederick noted "Catholic Doctors are called to action on behalf of our brothers and sistersaround the world. This award is given in recognition of the efforts of one doctor who has responded to Christ's call to "Heal the Sick", as a member of our Catholic faith community and in doing so has made a "World of Difference".
