CatholicTV® Network Programming Commemorates Patriot Day

WATERTOWN, MA (September 9, 2011) - On September 11th, we remember and pray for the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks ten years ago. Father Robert Reed, President of the CatholicTV Network will preside at the Sunday Mass on cw56/WLVI at 7a.m. (rebroadcast at 7p.m.). Father Reed's homily is based on the Gospel for the Twenty-Fourth Sunday in OrdinaryTime addressing forgiveness with the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant.

Other programming throughout the day and the days to follow commemorates the sacrifices and suffering which took place during the tragic events as a result of the attacks. Father Joe Bayne, Buffalo Fire Chaplain, shares his experience as a Chaplain responder at Ground Zero, administering Last Rites and praying at the tower sites.

Music and the Spoken Word offers: "9/11: Rising Above" this event captures in music and word the courage and optimism that will ring in the heart of every American listener and viewer. Special guest narrator, Tom Brokaw is one of the most trusted and respected figures in broadcast journalism. For 21 years, Brokaw was the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News. He has received numerous honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award, and an Emmy Award.

In his blog, (www.cardinalseansblog.org) Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston recalled that " The entire nation was also moved by the sacrifices of the public safety officials who gave their lives courageously fulfilling their duty. Over 300 fine men and women perished, including Father Mychal Judge, a Franciscan in New York who was the fire chaplain and who died giving the last rites to victims at the World Trade Center.

The events of Sept. 11 demonstrated the fragility of human life and, as often happens in these cataclysmic events, you saw the very worst and the very best of humanity. The worst, certainly, were those who plotted for months, and perhaps years, to perpetrate this crime that killed thousands of innocent people. At the same time, you saw the courage of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and even average citizens, such as the passengers who fought back on United Airlines Flight 93, forcing the plane down before it reached its intended target. "

Joy of Music presents "In Remembrance" with host Diane Bish. "In Remembrance" is a moving tribute to those who died and those who lost loved ones on that tragic morning. Music includes: "Amazing Grace", Elgar's "Nimrod", "A Mighty Fortress is Our God", Diane's arrangement of "Jesus Savior Pilot Me", "Glory", Sibelius/Webb "Be Still My Soul", "I Know Who Holds the Future" with musical guests: The St. Andrew's Bagpipe Band, Sung Sook Lee, Soprano; Angela Brown, Soprano and The Joy of Music Chorale & Instrumental Ensemble.

A special episode of "St. Cecelia's Musical Showcase" will highlight these concert tributes on Sunday September 11th on CatholicTV cable outlets and CatholicTV.com
