July 19th, 2012 Catholic Online (www.catholic.org) New local editions are rolling out to regions across the country as Catholic Online updates the look and feel of the webpages. The changes should be visible to local edition subscribers on Monday. LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - In making the changes, Catholic Online wanted to give the local editions a "Web 2.0" look and feel, getting away from the more traditional appearance of the pages.
Catholic Online has been an innovator in web development and an early adopter of change. For example, Catholic Online adopted theHUB, an enterprise relationship management tool that used "the cloud" before cloud computing was mainstream. But while Catholic Online has spent considerable effort on back-end interfaces for administrators, the look and feel of the website has changed little in the past few years. The changes to the local edition are a precursor to new developments on Catholic Online as the world's largest Catholic website keeps itself current with the times. While the look and feel of the local editions change, Marshall Connolly, Director of Marketing for Catholic Online, stressed that, "All the previous functionality is still there. Parishes will still have their Parish Community Networks up and running and the pages for parish organizations aren't going away. The changes are mainly cosmetic and will improve functionality of the local edition. The Parish Community Networks that fall under the local editions will remain in place, untouched, and they will remain free," he added with a smile. In addition to new local editions, a mobile news app is in the final development stages and the main site of Catholic Online may see some pleasant changes in 2013. Anyone who wants a peek at a local edition can navigate to Catholic.org, local, and chose any of the editions listed there. Also, anyone interested in getting the Parish Community Network, a free website and resource for parishes, can contact Faith Digital Media here.
