Domino Pizza's founder sues over stipulation in health care law

Devout Roman Catholic says that both abortion and birth control are 'gravely immoral'

Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino's Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the health care law. A devout Roman Catholic, Monaghan says that abortion and contraception don't fall under health care - and in his words "Gravely immoral."

Domino Pizza founder Tom Monaghan offers health insurance for his employees, but excludes abortion and contraception. According to the new federal law, employers are required to offer insurance including contraception coverage, or risk heavy fines.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Monaghan filed a lawsuit last week in federal court. Domino's Farms is listed as a plaintiff, which is a Michigan office park complex that Monaghan owns.

Monaghan offers health insurance for his employees, but excludes abortion and contraception. According to the new federal law, employers are required to offer insurance including contraception coverage, or risk heavy fines.

Monaghan maintains that the law violates his rights, pointing out that it is not his responsibility to pay for the sexual habits of his employees, He is asking a judge to strike down the mandate. Monaghan's sentiments are echoed nationwide, as there are similar lawsuits pending nationwide.

Monaghan is not the first pizza chain to speak out against the president's health care overhaul. Aside from former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, Papa John's founder John Schnatter said it was "common sense" that there would be cutbacks as the result of thousands of pages of new regulation. Schnatter later rescinded.

The Obama administration maintains in the meantime that the contraception mandate actually benefits women.

Domino's Pizza is an international pizza delivery corporation headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. Founded in 1960, Domino's is the second-largest pizza chain in the United States (after Pizza Hut) and has more than 10,000 corporate and franchised stores in 70 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Domino's Pizza was sold to Bain Capital in 1998 and went public in 2004.

According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, one of  Domino's Pizza biggest claims was quick delivery. Starting in 1973, Domino's Pizza had a guarantee that customers would receive their pizzas within 30 minutes of placing an order, or they would receive the pizzas free. The guarantee was reduced to $3 off in the mid 1980s.

In 1992, the company settled a lawsuit brought by the family of an Indiana woman who had been killed by a Domino's delivery driver, paying the family $2.8 million.

In another 1993 lawsuit, brought by a woman who was injured when a Domino's delivery driver ran a red light and collided with her vehicle, the woman was awarded nearly $80 million, but accepted a payout of $15 million. The guarantee was dropped that same year because of the "public perception of reckless driving and irresponsibility", according to Monaghan.

Phil from Domino's Pizza. I wanted to clarify that Domino's founder Tom Monaghan sold the company in 1998 and today has no active affiliation with our company. The media often neglect to note this fact. Domino's Pizza has made no public statements about health care, as we are still waiting to see how the final rules will affect our network of small business owners.

I'll take the pizza without the cover to enjoy it. Go Catholic, go.

Tom Monaghan has courage, based on what is written in this article. Notice all the political language, cult-ural manipulation of language, sophistry, utilitarian language, gender language appealing to a mobocracy in a demagogue like style that is present in this article. A nanny state is an INSULT to the wisdom and intelligence of the citizenry. It is telling people: we think you are stupid, incompetent, incapable of controlling your own selves, and therefore we need to take care of you. As one writer put it, doctors often need to have the patients feeling sick so as to keep the hospital full. Where would politicians be and large bureaucracies, administrations, if the citizenry was AWAKE and responsible? People, be aware that the more effective you become as individuals the less you will need anyone or anything to take care of you. This logically follows, consequentially, that effective people are highly effective at putting bureaucrats and administrators and union mob like mentality types OUT OF WORK. Why? Strong people do not need a nanny state. I would NEVER wish to be a unionized employee, work for a bureaucracy, union, administration, and feel LESS safe when people are apparently taking care of me. No thanks. I feel more secure flying as an eagle than I do in a HERD OF DUCKS. Flying in formation with a so called duck leader FRIGHTENS me, because they dissipate when the lead duck gets shot. Eagles? They don't need a chicken henhouse, don't need duck formations, and don't need to be working in teams as wolves or running in herds such as cattle. Let eagles and those who wish flying solo do so!!! Read what Abraham Maslov said on CULT-URE. The biggest cult of all is cult-ure. It requires a perpetual hammering away and sifting to separate the wheat from the chaff to try to remain someone objective and detached from any given culture. Imagine a duck trying to give flying lessons to an eagle? Or, a chicken trying to teach the eagle how to fly? This is what it perpetually feels like having the GOVERNMENT and bureaucrats in our hair with their STUPID propositions and plans. Blunt, honest, and straight. I DESPISE these nanny state SAPS. Adults are big kids. Too much security creates a dull dimwit. Health care should not mean political ideologies and cult-ural relativism. Health care is health care. Have it defined by the Catholic Church, experts in the humanities. Do not have it defined by the government, bureaucrats, administrators; they will define it to suit their own ends on YOUR taxes. DEFINE YOUR TERMS. An American philosopher in Canada would pound this message through to us in philosophy classes, almost incessantly, years ago. DEFINE YOUR TERMS. See how the government uses and manipulates language, using THEIR definitions to create premises that will seek to have logical consequential outflows coming from these many premises based on LIES. A premise might be false, with all the arguments logically sound and coherent according to the premise. Bravo to Mr. Monaghan for having courage. I wish more heavy weights in the laity would come forth and show some courage as this man has.
