Provocatively dressed, Ann Romney makes appearance on Jay Leno's 'Tonight Show'
Wife of Mitt Romney hopes election of husband will be blow against anti-Mormon prejudice
Wearing a scalloped and tiered black leather skirt with a matching jacket and cutout stiletto heels, Ann Romney sported a far edgier look than the public has seen her before on the Jay Leno TV talk show. She told Leno that the election of her husband would strike a blow against prejudice against Mormonism during her appearance on "The Tonight Show" this week.
Ann Romney looks fantastic on Jay Leno
Ann Romney opened her conversation with a scare she experienced last week when her plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Denver after smoke filled the cockpit and cabin.
"You never want to mix a fire with jet fuel and of course you think about how dangerous those things can be," she said.
She added that the incident happened so quickly that there was little time to panic. "Of course there were mostly women on the plane, but we had our Secret Service guys there," she added. "They took charge and the pilot was great and we felt pretty comfortable."
As to how her husband Mitt was ridiculed for wondering out loud why they couldn't just open the windows to clear out the smoke, she confirmed that comment was a joke, saying it was "his way of making light of how worried he really was about me."
While skirting controversial subjects, Leno did ask Ann Romney to address the hidden-camera recording of Romney dismissing 47 percent of Americans as government dependents.
"It's a very frustrating thing, because you try so hard to get your message out and you try so hard to let people know, you know, this is a guy that I know cares. This is a guy that cares about the hundred percent."
Ann added that she hasn't received any flak for snapping in a radio interview last week that Republican critics of her husband's campaign should "stop it" or "get in the ring."
"Oh dear, was I a little strong?" she recalled coming out of the interview.
But overall, she said the response to her blunt talk has been positive. "Everyone I've seen is like giving me high fives, she said.
The majority of the interview was devoted to stories about her relationship with the Republican nominee and their family. She recalled meeting her husband for the first time at a dance and gave what Leno called a "political answer" to a question about his skills on the dance floor.
"You know, Jay, he's gotten to be a better dancer," she said carefully, getting a laugh from the audience.
Romney also made light of her multi-millionaire husband's famously thrifty habits. "We love Costco," she said. When asked if her husband was "frugal or cheap," the candidate's wife quickly responded that he's "cheap."
"When we leave the house, he turns off the hot water heater," she said, adding that he sometimes neglects to turn it back on.
"He says, cold showers - they're not so bad," she said.

I think she looked great! She is a beautiful lady and would make a breath of fresh air in the our White House.
It was in the nedia. I saw it on TV that the media was criticizing Ann Romney for her outfit. The mistake our catholic site made is to repeat the same wording. I don't see anything wrong with her outfit. But our anti-Romney group were apt to point out her clothes but never comment on Michelle when she wore that dress with patches of different materials.
Do you know the meaning of the word provocative? Because A dress with a jacket that is down to her elbows, a skirt that is down to her knees and a normal v-neck top is not provocative. Is it the lace shoes.... please? RIDICULOUS STORY!!!!! The dress has cut outs but is not see through.... and those lace shoes are AWESOME!!!!!1
Is COO now a fashion critic? I think it should better keep doing what they do best, and leave the fashion business to others.
Just what exactly, was provocative about how she was dressed? Her see-through shoes? Give me a break. Geez. God bless.
All this shows is money does not equal taste or class.
Provocative Dress? Please! I am not a fashion expert but the dress was far from provocative. It was not to my taste but that is no reason not to vote for her husband. The important thing is that she must have thought she looked nice. That is what counts.
A very sexy, powerful, and beautiful look. Good for her! -Cheers! ~Mike, friendly atheist
I must admit, when I first glanced up at the TV she was sitting in a way that made me triple take, because it looked like she was wearing a leather jacket top and some kind of frilly lingerie bottom.
Obviously once my brain calculated everything, considered the source and the camera angle changed, I accepted it was just an 'outfit' that tricked me.. But at first glance.. yikes.
