Romney camp raises $100 million in June for campaign

The amount is the largest ever for one month for a Republican candidate

The Romney campaign raised more than $100 million in June, setting the record for the largest one-month amount ever raised for a Republican presidential candidate. It has already "blown away" the Romney's campaign.

With anger growing in GOP circles over the recent Supreme Court decision on Obama care, the Romney fundraising - which continues to outperform Obama - is expected to increase.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Current U.S. President Barack Obama previously raised $150 million as he was surging in September 2008, the record month for any campaign.

To date, the Romney campaign outraised Obama in May, taking in $77 million, compared with the $60 million for the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Romney supporters say that much of the donations made in June came from new donors, with states from coast to coast out-performing their targets. New York in particular was generous to the Romney campaign, and Colorado, Michigan, New Jersey and Ohio all exceeded everyone's wildest expectations.

With anger growing in GOP circles over the recent Supreme Court decision on Obama care, the fundraising - which continues to outperform Obama - is expected to increase.

"There is no doubt that Romney is dramatically outpacing both Obama and expectations," GOP strategist Steve Simmons told Capitol Hill Blue. "He's doing better in the polls and he's beating Obama in fundraising."

Republican strategists feel the Supreme Court decision will break for Romney and energize a base that has - to date - been lukewarm to the nominee.

The Obama campaign is not taking this lying down.

"Mitt Romney is trying to distract from a week when he took contradictory positions on the freeloader penalty in the Affordable Care Act and we learned more about his offshored finances in Switzerland, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands," Ben LaBolt, Obama campaign national press secretary said in regards to Romney's $100-million month.

"Americans are less concerned about how much money he raised to get himself elected and more interested in what he would do after repealing health reform, which he has refused to share, and why he won't disclose the necessary tax returns that prove whether or not he paid any U.S. taxes on his shell corporation in Bermuda."

Robert, this happens because we have no accountability in our election cycle. The elections seem to be all about who has the better commercials, more money etc. It's almost like a sick game of American Idol. When you treat politics like a football game, sometime the affinity for our own side causes us to lose objectivity. We so easily pass over the mistakes of our own party because we've come to a place where the only thing that matters is so long as they aren't the other guy. It must be nice to work in an environment where you just have to spout off the right things and never really get anything done. Amazing how we've let 546 people in DC wreck this country. Ideology has completely eliminated the power of our vote. Gotta love the power of propoganda.

As an independent voter I must laugh. In England all it takes is a vote of no confidence and and in a month or two there will be a new leader. When I vote in November I will hold my nose and vote and millions will be spent by special interests of both parties for my vote which I will give unfortunately to the best of two evils. Something is wrong here

I have always found it intereting that for a struggling economy, it's amazing how much money seems to be out their for politics. It's so interesting to see what we say we value in this country and where we actually spend our money. The money both camps are raising can only lead to corruption. This money is not flowing in with no strings attached. I sure hope we understand who we are really electing and whose interests those elected will really serve.
