Billionaire casino mogul said to have contributed $10 million to Romney campaign
Sheldon Adelson was prominent figure in keeping Newt Gingrich's campaign afloat
Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino mogul who helped keep Newt
Gingrich's failed presidential campaign alive during the Republican
primaries, has now reportedly donated $10 million to the super PAC
supporting the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney. This news has been
leaked from those with inside knowledge of the matter. PAC Restore Our
Future leader Carl Forti would neither confirm nor deny the donation,
saying his policy was to not comment on donors or potential donors.
Sheldon Adelson's insiders said that he wants to be certain about Romney's positions on key issues, including support for Israel against aggressors in the Middle East. Adelson has been highly vocal about President Barack Obama's support of Israel as too weak.
Forbes Magazine has ranked Adelson among the 10 wealthiest Americans with a net worth of more than $20 billion. Adelson also serves as the chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which includes the famous Venetian casino in Las Vegas, in addition to casinos in Macau and Singapore.
Adelson gave $21 million in total to a PAC supporting Newt Gingrich during the early primaries. Adelman and his cronies abandoned Gingrich after he fell far behind in the races and the delegate count.
After Gingrich pulled out of the primary race, Republican leaders have been expecting for Adelson to step forward for Romney. Adelson and Romney had a private meeting last month in Las Vegas. Adelson attended Romney's dessert fundraiser afterwards for those who contributed $50,000 or more.

Adelson has told friends that he intends to give at least $100 million to conservative causes and candidates this election cycle, contributing some $250,000 to Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, who just won against a labor union-forced recall election there.
Adelson has also told colleagues that he would prefer to keep his contributions under wraps in order to avoid controversy, and will likely focus donations mostly on non-profits affiliated with political PACS, which don't have to disclose the names of donors. Adelson is expected to donate to the conservative non-profit Crossroads GPS, which was founded by Republican strategist Karl Rove, a longtime friend of Adelson, according to Republican fundraisers.

J.Bob: Good Answer to Rob's post. We must look further than the eye can see. As far as Unions Rob....To me, perhaps Unions have had their place in history. They did a very good job: Stopping child labor, abuses to humanity, equal and fair rights, etc. But now, they have gone beyond the pale. They lost 10,000 jobs in Detroit. They demand so much more, that Big Business go overseas for employment. And Our government is so rife w/Unions, one can hardly get one fired for taking 2 hour lunches and drinking beer on tax payer dollars! (I am speaking of County.) Let us not mention, the Big Payoffs they get when they do get fired, which is more tax payer dollars! (I am now speaking of the Government.) Yes, if Unions were not Corrupt like our government, and were for Social Justice (Only), perhaps I could see it. And I, believe it or not, come from a long line, and long history of family Union workers-Individual Business, County, State, and Government. Right now, I am questioning the role Unions played in sending jobs overseas. And I am and I can question, Unions supporting Obama as much as a Las Vegas Jewish Conservative wanting support for his own Homeland of Israel. Prayerful Contemplations...
J.Bob, you are exactly right. It's a huge problem on both ends of the spectrum. We've digressed to this situation where the elite of the right and left choose our candidates for us. With Citizens United, it's almost like an arms race in campaign spending. And we are ignorant if we think these donors do not expect something for these contributions. This is lobbying in it's finest. Citizens United sort of cut out the middle man. Now these folks can directly buy their access. Never mind they spend all this money on these Super Pacs who are nothing more than propoganda machines that basically lie to the public. Seems we've allowed the commercialization of the process trump democracy. Sure, we get to vote...for the guy they pick. And when the person is elected make no mistake as to who that person serves. If we really want to take our country back, we'll get the guts to say no to the money. Until then, we are part of the problem.

Considering the Millions Hollywood contributes to Obama, I wonder how many "unskilled" people they have? Yet how many complain about them?
So how many "regular voter" votes do we think it takes to overcome something like that? It's no wonder that DC has stopped working for the people. How can it when it's for sale at prices like that? We can't compete with that and this doesn't matter what side of the political spectrum you are on. I do find it interesting that a casino mogul would be so "conservative" given the line of business he is in. But I totally get why he would support ensuring folks can't unionize. That makes perfect sense when you have a large pool of unskilled workers. Given his net worth, I wonder what the average casino worker makes?
