'Catholic' Joe Biden supports extra rights for gays

All Americans presently enjoy the same rights, but that's not enough for some.

Vice President Joe Biden has come out swinging at traditional marriage. He personally endorsed the position held by proponents of "same-sex" marriage. That amounts to granting a moral and legal equivalency between homosexual relationships and authentic marriage between a man and a woman. The Obama administration has already backtracked on Biden's comments.

America has spoken, but Obama and Biden won't listen -- the agenda is louder.

America has spoken, but Obama and Biden won't listen -- the agenda is louder.

WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - The comments were delivered before the nation on NBC's Meet the Press. "I am the Vice President of the United States of America. The president sets the policy. I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitles to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly, I don't see much distinction - beyond that."

The problem is, everyone Biden mentioned already has the exact same rights, civil rights, and all the civil liberties. All consenting adults in the US are freely permitted to marry a spouse of their choosing, provided they are of the opposite sex. Now authorizing a unique form of "marriage" for gays and lesbians would give newly created "rights" to people who already have the same rights as everybody else.

From a Catholic perspective, as well as the perspective of the Natural Law, marriage between two individuals of the same sex is impossible. Homosexual partners simply cannot achieve the ends of marriage. Calling their relationship a "marriage" and then using the police power of the State to enforce the fiction does not serve the common good.

It remains unclear if president Obama would support same-sex marriage in his second term, but the backtracking began almost immediately. A spokesperson for Biden later clarified the VP's remarks saying, "The vice president was saying what the president has said previously - that committed and loving same-sex couples deserve the same rights and protections enjoyed by all Americans, and that we oppose any effort to rollback those rights. That's why we stopped defending the constitutionality of section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act in legal challenges and support legislation to repeal it. Beyond that, the Vice President was expressing that he too is evolving on the issue, after meeting so many committed couples and families in this country."

While this tempers Biden's statement, it also hints that President Obama may be willing to sell out marriage for the votes. After all, what other agenda could motivate the President to stop defending the truth about marriage?

It was also pointed out by Administration sources that Biden never stated in explicit terms that he specifically supported "gay marriage".

What some observers believe may be happening is, as the Obama administration struggles to keep its faltering hopes of reelection alive, they are willing to take such stances in an effort to win votes.

This is not the kind of principled leadership that makes Nations - or Presidents - great.

In my opinion, it is fine for Joe Biden to present his views. But, if he is not a Catholic in deed, then he must be treated as such. It is the duty of the church to uphold that. If they do not act, then they are complicit in their own duplicity. The church should deny him of Holy Communion at a bare minimum and they ought to do this in a very public way, perhaps informing him through the media, that this is going to occur.

We're not giving extra rights to gays, we're giving everyone the right to marry who they love, regardless of their gender.

If you're disgusted by that, mind your own business.

Vice President Biden is a Catholic in name only. He and other high profile pseudo Catholics need to be publically reprimanded by the Church, and if they continue to publically oppose fundamental Church teachings then they should be denied the sacraments, beginning with receiving Holy Communion. Perhaps then these renegade Catholics will realize the seriousness of their actions and repent. If not they should be expelled from the Church.

sir biden must make his parents proud. he will find out his thought processes, when he leaves this state of being, are slightly scewed. his Catholic God who said be fruitful and multiply and become one flesh is going to tell joey it don't work that way with two of the same. what he is saying and promoting is going against what his God laid out a long time ago. POOR JOEY

The bishop that has allowed this sacrilege and scandal on his watch should be recalled, sent to a monastery and ordered to wear a hair shirt for the rest of his cowardly life.

Why is this man not excommunicated? Are his words not heresy? He and his ilk should be excommunicated for preaching against the Catholic Church's teachings, aka HERESY!!!

Biden claimed that more than half the Catholics approve of same-sex marriage. Someone should tell that Dufas that our Church is not ruled by the majority vote. Those that choose not to follow the magisteriam of the Church should find another venue for their spiritual enlightment. When polls are conducted, they should be verified by a few more questions, such as how often do you attend Mass, etc. Real Catholics do not approve of gay marriage. Biden is far from being a real Catholic.

It's time the Catholic Church stands up and puts these public speakers in their place. This is heresy to allow these supposely "Catholic Politicians" just to say what they want that is contrary to Catholic Teachings and no one...not even a priest or bishop is afraid to say something. And then communion is allowed for them...the body of Christ into the mouths of these disrespectful individuals. And then Joe Biden goes on to say the 51 percent of Catholics believe in gay marriage...where did he get that figure. Then I also read today that another Catholic organization for gays and lesbians, says that 71% of Catholics believe in gay marriage...I just don't believe.

I wonder why you have labeled this article "news." It's an editorial that takes not only an ideological stance but a political one. The last sentence, especially, isn't "news;" it's an opinion that is not attributed to anyone. Readers would assume it's the author's opinion, or perhaps the opinion of the publication.

What exactly does it take to excommunicate a Catholic, or for a local bishop to say an individual has fallen too far away from the teachings of the Church to receive Communion? It seems that both Pelosi and Biden have gone too far, and since they are public figures, should be forbidden to take Holy Communion until they pubicly apologize to all the Catholics in this country for misrepresenting them, and follow the teachings of the Church.
