LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Moskowitz is a Jewish conservative who has provided generous support for Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. That support has proven controversial amid the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Moskowitz is an 83 year-old retired physician who made his fortune running bingo and casino operations in California. He is also a supporter of far-right Israeli groups. More recently, he has supported American political groups including groups that suggest Obama is not an American-born citizen and that he has ties to radical Islam.

His February donation represents his largest donation to a super PAC to date.

Moskowitz grew up in New York and Milwaukee during the 1930s and 40s. The events of those times, as well as losing more than 120 family members during the holocaust, helped shape his Jewish identity and his strong ultra-conservative views.

After relocating to Southern California to practice medicine, Moskowitz purchased distressed hospitals and flipped them, donating the profits to Jewish settlers in West Bank and Gaza.

Since 2008, Moskowitz has given more than $15 million to the cause of Jewish settlement.

He has also created problems for the Obama administration, which has been advocating a freeze on new Jewish settlements. Moskowitz has been using his money and influence in Israel to promote settlements in spite of the Administration's opposition.

Several groups that are advocating a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict regard Moskowitz's involvement as a roadblock to the peace process.

While Moskowitz donates lavishly to causes that support ultra-conservative Jewish activity in Israel, and anti-Obama political causes on the US, his latest donation in certain to catch the attention of both Republicans and Democrats. Both sides are becoming increasingly aware that the race to come will be particularly negative - and expensive. Every dollar will count, and a million of them could make a real difference in the final outcome.

Jews in two thousands years never forgot Jerusalem ,do'nt expect the Palestinians to forget Palestine in 60.Guys like Moskowitz is keen to give money for settlements but when the land is return to the rightfull owners the Israeli goverment comes with hand out for money from the U.S. tax payer to resettle the Israeli in Israel proper as they were going to do when they pulled out of Gaza but drop when they knew it would'nt look so good after New Oleans was flooded and the U.S. Tax payer could put the money to far better use resettling Americans,

I am always amazed that people think a two state solution will be the answer. It will just mean a few more square miles added to the millions that the Arab nations already have but it will severely cut Israel's land, tiny nation that it is already. If a Palestinian state is created it will not stop the bloodshed. The Arab world wants to wipe out Israel either all at once or piece by piece. The only question is what will be the next excuse for violence against Israel?

Moskowitz is right to do what he has done. The Obama administration is anti-Israel and Moskowitz knows it. Heck, I'm not even Jewish and I know that! People have the right to defend themselves and those they love. Anyone who loves life needs to throw everything they have into the defense of life right now. No apology is needed. Moskowitz is right in what he has done. It wasn't Israel that bombed America on 9/11. Pope Benedict XVI did say that Muslims were to willing to allow violence as the answer. He said this just days before the Arab revolutions in the Middle East happened and they have been intensely violent. Anyone recall Marx/Lenin and their calls for violent revolution as the answer? Forcing a solution by violence is not the answer.

I am sorry to see that CATHOLIC.ORG has established a positive take on this man's political spending. Further funding of Jewish settlement groups will only through gasoline onto an already raging fire; something that will translate into the death, injury and forced decampment of Jew and Muslim alike.
