MANASSAS, Va. (Cardinal Newman Society) - Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of the Lincoln Diocese supplied The Cardinal Newman Society (CNS) with a copy of his letter to University of Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins in which the bishop publicly opposes Jenkins’ past support for The Vagina Monologues and his decision to honor and host pro-abortion President Barack Obama at commencement on May 17, 2009.

“Faithful Catholics will be thankful for Bishop Bruskewitz’s clear and pointed criticism of the abuse of Catholic identity at Notre Dame and should remain vigilant in their prayers for an end to the scandal,” said Patrick J. Reilly, president of The Cardinal Newman Society.

In total, 31 bishops have raised their voices against the scandal of Notre Dame’s commencement honors for President Obama. The petition at NotreDameScandal.com now has well over a quarter of a million signers.

Below is the text of Bishop Bruskewitz’s letter to Notre Dame president Fr. John Jenkins.

April 3, 2009

The Reverend John Jenkins, C.S.C
President, University of Notre Dame
400 Main Building
Notre Dame, IN 46556

Reverend and dear Father Jenkins,

Permit me to add my name as well to the long list of Bishops of the Catholic Church who are utterly appalled at your dedication to immorality and wrong-doing represented by your support for the obscenity called “The Vagina Monologues” and your absolute indifference to the murderous abortion program and beliefs of this President of the United States.

The fact that you have some sort of past connection with the State of Nebraska makes it all the more painful that the Catholic people here have to see your betrayal of the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.

I can assure you of my prayers for your conversion, and for the conversion of your formerly Catholic University. I am,
Sincerely yours in Christ Jesus,

The Most Reverend Fabian W. Bruskewitz
Bishop of Lincoln

To "ESTHER" in regards your posting stating that Fr. Jenkins cannot hold a candle to Fr. Hessburg, well for your Info Fr. Hessburg in 1967 promoted the position that the bishops NOT have such a large say in Catholic University diversity.LAND O LAKES CONFERENCE..he is still alive and at 91 is pleased with Obama coming to N D and receiving HONORS IN LAW. SAD but TRUE...

Our church is UNDER assault NOT only from the secular LEFT as NEVER BEFORE in my LIFE, but also as stated by the FIFTH COLUMN, the ANTI CATHOLIC CATHOLICS..............So much of which the prophets have written in scripture is coming to fullfillment, it is fear producing yet illuminating in that times as GOD saw many many ions ago seems to be reaching its epoch......We must be brave and bold in defending LIFE, the FAITH and GOD! It is spoken by the prophets that the weather changing patterns are associated with the end times, why not ??? The whole universe is GODS HIS creation........He has spoken to us over and over in nature ...many laugh at this, but each time the wind howls I think of the HOLY SPIRIT.

Chris...you talk about throwing stones but you go on to judge everyone on this site. You say MOST all the time and that the SURVEY says 95%. First, if you haven't lived in the shoes of everyone on this site then don't judge us. As far as polls, how many people were surveyed to get 95%? In my opinion, unless they call up every Catholic in the world and ask whether they contracept or not (and other issues) then they have no concrete answer to state a percentage. They just may have called 100 people and 95 of them conctracept; when, there are millions of Catholics all over the world. And as far as reading the documents, If I have a question regarding my faith, I got back to the source to find the answer. I HAVE read the Bible in it's entirety, BUT I don't have the memory to retain every phrase and verse associated with it. But, I can say I think what I am looking for is in this book and I will scan or do an online search.

As far as Ann, enough with the priests. They were less than 1% of all the priests in the U.S. I agree they affected a lot of children (now men of some who committed suicide), but it is like the Democrats who talk about Iraq and say "well there were no WMDs". Get off it. The priests are not the Church...Jesus IS the Church...He is the law...WE OBEY.
As far as the WMDs, I have one question? What were used on the Kurds in norther Iraq to kill thousands of them at one time? WMDs...they were moved. And I agree when someone noted that you only care of the born...I wonder how you will feel when the aged and sick are given involuntary injections to end their life because the health costs are too much to keep them alive....THIS IS COMING...WAIT AND SEE.
