Catholic League: Sebelius - Enemy of the Unborn - to HHS?

Sebelius’ support for abortion is so far off-the-charts that she has been publicly criticized by the last three archbishops of Kansas City.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Catholic League) - Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on a front-page story in today’s New York Times that says Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is the president’s top choice as secretary of health and human services:

“Almost all of those working in the Obama administration are pro-abortion, and the expectation is that almost all future appointees will be champions of abortion rights, as well. Fortunately, most are not in a position to affect abortion policy. One glaring exception is the secretary of health and human services. Unfortunately, Gov. Sebelius, a Catholic, may get the job.

“Sebelius’ support for abortion is so far off-the-charts that she has been publicly criticized by the last three archbishops of Kansas City. In 1992, when Sebelius was a state legislator, Archbishop Ignatius Strecker rebuked her for leading what he dubbed a ‘death-march of the unborn.’

"When Sebelius became governor in 2003, Archbishop James Keleher, citing her abortion record, asked her to move her inauguration interfaith service from Topeka’s Assumption Catholic Church. She refused.

"The current archbishop, Joseph Naumann, called her out on the issue: he challenged her to name one instance in her long legislative career where she supported limiting abortion rights. She could not. He subsequently asked her not to go to Communion.

“None of these archbishops overreacted. Not only does Sebelius support the now outlawed practice of killing babies who are 80 percent born, so-called partial-birth abortion, she has accepted donations from one of the most notorious practitioners of this Nazi-style act—Dr. George Tiller. Moreover, she even hosted a dinner for him in the Governor’s Mansion.

“Just yesterday, the pope admonished House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on this issue. Now we have the specter of another pro-abortion Catholic stiffing the Catholic Church. This is setting up a confrontation that pro-life Catholics will not walk away from.

"It is also setting up a battle between those Catholics who are honestly pro-life, and those who feign a pro-life position while always embracing the likes of Sebelius.”

This is a DEMOCRACY!! The right to an abortion is legal, the law of the land. The recent election clearly demonstrated that the majority of voters support the right to abortions and do not want extreme restrictions.

Gov. Sebelius is a strong individual, brave enough to stand up to the old white men running the catholic church. They have failed to scare enough catholics to force the election and they have failed to change the behavior of Pelosi and Biden, two other brave catholics.

BTW, it is a joke to claim that Gov. Sebelius is really bad because she was publicly criticized by the last three archbishops of Kansas City. The Kansas City school board, until recently, denied evolution and tought intelligent design; so much for the leading minds of that city.

It is long past due that the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church lead with authority. The souls of countless pro-abortion politicians and pro-aborton voters hang in the balance. Our Church leaders have been soft far too long on this topic as well as other's in trying to be non offensive to those it sheepishly admonishes. Mercy is obtained after and only after confession & repentance with a sincere purpose of ammendment. Someone needs to boldly say that those who hold immoral views especially in leadership roles be they Church or political, stand a high probabilty of ending up in Hell.

I plan on using the website mentioned above to let my voice be heard. Also, I think it is time for EVERY bishop in EVERY diocese throughout the USA to issue their own personal statement condemning abortion for each and every reason, knowing full well that the "health of the mother" condition is rarely, if ever, something involved in abortion.

It is time to teach the Truth - if you do not want babies - if you are not married - do not have babies - but remember that to procure an abortion or to support in any way the abortion of an unborn child automatically excommunicates you from the Sacraments and you SHOULD NOT receive Eucharist until you have received absolution from the local Bishop.

Sorry, but we have waited far too long and contraception and abortion are fully ingrained into the National Conscience. This is unacceptable for Catholics who want to remain in good standing before the throne of our Lord. Please, if I am wrong admonish me and explain to me why - publicly.

There is now a petition of the lay faithful to the Vatican asking the Pope to enforce the denial of communion to politicians who claim to be Catholic and yet support state-sanctioned killing of the unborn. Go to www.pewsitter.com to sign it.

I have one thing to say about this...our bishops are going to be held responsible for a lot of this. They've allowed the wolves to mingle with the flock for far too long; it's like parents who just yell at their kids but never actually DISCIPLINE them. Aren't the crosier's to keep the wolves out????

Too many pastors have and are not doing their job. they have too much freedom. This is the result of not wanting to offend women or loosing parishiners at the expense on killing babies. These women evev work in many of our churches .They need to clean house. start with this.

As Catholics we must all move to email or wright our representatives and advocate not approving the Selbelius appointment. We must also look for ways to denounce Pelosi as representing catholism in any way.
