DOOMSDAY - experts calculate the odds and they're scary

The odds are much worse than most assume.

What are the odds of the world coming to an end in any year? According to experts, those odds are more likely than most assume.

Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Experts have calculated the odds of global catastrophe and concluded there's a better chance of the end of the world than both Brexit and the election of Donald Trump.

The odds of the end of the world happening in the next year are 1 in 500. Those are better odds than what was given for Brexit and the election of Donald Trump.

Experts say that nuclear proliferation and overpopulation are providing the greatest danger. In addition to these, climate change, and simple human greed and disrespect are exacerbating the odds.

There are also smaller odds of natural catastrophe, such as an asteroid impact, and a super-massive volcanic eruption.

In short, we should be worried. Aside from the election of Trump and Brexit passing, things with less likely odds have happened.

The way we treat one another in a crowded world with limited resources is critical. Many people dismiss such assessments as these that point how close we are to danger. However, this dismissive attitude is irresponsible. Studies reveal that civilizations tend to collapse shortly after reaching their peak, and those collapses can be frightfully swift, occurring between months to a generation or so.

Will doomsday come in your lifetime? It's possible. People place bets with longer odds than these all the time.
