LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Daily Mail, the computer system, called "Virtual Actor," is in the works by the National Research Nuclear University in Moscow.

The Virtual Actor's main function will be to mimic human emotions and facial expressions.

Through the use of artificial intelligence, Virtual Actor will be capable of taking a human actor's place on the stage or silver screen.

Researchers claim it will understand the context of a conversation and will be capable of real-time improvisation to fit the situation.

To enable such reactions, researchers have been focusing on the hippocampus of the brain, which uses neurons to perceive space.

Should the neurons be positioned along a specific plane, their activity focuses on a certain point.

Professor Alexei Samsonovich, from the Cybernetics Department at the University, explained: "Our principal goal is to formulate the basic principles that natural intelligence in the human brain is built upon.

"Biological solutions are in many respects superior to artificial solutions in terms of their adaptability, learning ability, resistance to unexpected interventions, and so on, and we would like to model these principles on the computer."

Can scientists do it?

Does the world really need a computer capable of human reactions and thought processes? Only time will tell.
