Chinese invent robots that can beat humans at soccer

Soccer playing robots show why robots will be better than humans for a lot of tasks.

Earlier this year, a robot beat a master player at the ancient game of Go. Now, robots are beating humans at soccer. Armies of engineers are working around the world to develop artificial intelligence and robots that can do what humans do, only better. They're making breathtaking progress.

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Recently, robots in China beat humans in a soccer match as part of a robotics competition. The robots bested their human opponents 3-2. The humans were not professional players, but their mediocre skill does not diminish from the robot's success.

The robots demonstrated the uncanny ability to communicate and coordinate much faster than the humans. They were able to move quickly across the miniature, indoor soccer field to fire accurate shots into the goals. Their human opponents were also at a disadvantage when attempting to block shots.

There's probably no way the robots could win a fair match against professional opponents, but the fact they can coordinate and shoot accurately is a stunning achievement. They are also able to see both the players and the goals and they did not make poor shots.

Humans make lots of mistakes. They need to see one another to communicate clearly. They are commonly misunderstood. What they intend and what they do can be different.

The game shows why robots and AI will eventually render humans obsolete across many fields. If the job can be done by a robot it will be, since the robot will be faster and accurate and will not need breaks or pay.

The time is near for us to decide how far we want to let AI developers go, and we need to decide what we will do with all the displaced workers that will eventually be left over as robots assume millions of human jobs.
