Obama administration may have set up the Trump family for controversy.

Justice department documents reveal a Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr., in June of 2016, was admitted to the country by special permission. The clearance suggests the Obama Justice Department enabled the meeting between the two.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) -- Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya met with Donald Trump Jr. in June 2016, with the Trump campaign possibly seeking information that could damage Hillary Clinton.

The revelation has been co-opted into the leftwing narrative that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, and used a network agents and influencers to elect Trump who would be pro-Russia in his foreign policy. So far, no solid evidence of this narrative has emerged until now.

Even now, the meeting between the politically inexperienced Donald Trump Jr. and the possibly inept Natalia Veselnitskaya seems questionable.

Why was Veselnitskaya granted special permission to be in the USA without a visa by Loretta Lynch's office? Why did she speak no English? If she were some sort of elite Russian agent, she ought to have known English.

What we now know is Veselnitskaya was allowed into the country and permitted to visit with a number of political figures in an attempt to lobby them and persuade them to repeal or at least rename the Magnitsky Act, a U.S. law that sanctions Russia for alleged human rights violations.

During her whirlwind tour of the U.S., she met with several elected officials and VIPs.

It appears the Trump interest was stimulated by a promise that Veselnitskaya would provide information that could sink the Clinton campaign. Trump Jr. said he "loved" the idea.

It's important to see these events for what they are. The Russians were seeking to have sanctions lifted because doing so would free up hundreds of millions of dollars for their use. Their campaign targeted Trump Jr. only because there was a chance his father could become president. The Russians then sent a lawyer who spoke no English to the United States for the campaign. It does not seem like a covert op.

Nor does the Trump Jr. meeting appear to be anything more than dirt-mongering.

The pair met in Trump Jr. Office in the Trump Tower on June 9.

The strategic blunder of the Trump family is the knowledge that Veselnitskaya was there to deliver information that supposedly originated with the Russian government. This is at odds with the Trump administration's repeated claims that the Russians did not collude with the Trump campaign.

It is unclear what information, if any, Trump Jr. was given. The offer of information could have also been a setup, something that appears possible given that Loretta Lynch allowed Veselnitskaya into the country without a visa.

President Trump is soon to be invited to testify about what he knew of the meeting and what information was passed along, if any.

While it is clear that Russia attempted to meddle in the election, and that at least one member of the Trump campaign team took the bait, there is no clear evidence that incriminates President Trump.

The Russia story is a non-story and a minor issue overall. President Trump has not sold the nation to the Russians or neglected American interests overseas. If Russia sought to enthrall President Trump, they didn't do a very good job of it.
