Highlights

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Donald Trump has won the presidential election in a major victory over Hillary Clinton. At this time, the electoral vote tally is 279 to 218, for Trump with 31 electoral votes outstanding. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by a small margin.

In addition to winning the presidency, Republicans also won both the House and Senate. This means that Trump will have the least possible opposition as he begins his presidency.

Donald Trump won 59,149,210 votes with 98 percent of all ballots counted. Clinton won 59,319,829 votes. The electoral college means Trump will still become president despite Clinton's thin margin in the popular vote.

Clinton supporters are literally in a state of mourning as they dissect what went wrong. Some are blaming third party candidates, but quick addition of the tallies in swing states reveals that even if she had won the third party votes, she still would have lost.

Many are blaming a combination of WikiLeaks and the fact that Clinton was placed under repeated FBI investigation as key factors. However, Clinton's leaked emails were written by her own staff, so any embarrassment they caused belongs to those who wrote them. And the FBI does not conduct random investigations of people.

Some analysts are crediting Trump's victory because of his appeal to white male voters and the shifting demographics in America. As America becomes increasingly multicultural, white males turned out in greater numbers to make their collective voice heard. But there is no evidence to affirm this.

The most likely scenario is that Clinton was a deeply flawed candidate who never enjoyed more than a 50 percent approval rating among her own party.

In his victory speech, Donald Trump said it was time to heal divisions and he congratulated Hillary Clinton for a hard-fought campaign. He also pledged to begin the work of rebuilding America. Donald Trump is a builder by trade, so many expect him to tackle massive infrastructure projects across the country.

Taking on such projects will put millions of Americans to work and boost the economy.

Donald Trump is out next president. His election follows a divisive campaign that made many Americans question their values, their friendships, and the direction our nation is headed. It is time to set aside divisions and upset and look towards rebuilding the nation together.
