LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - On Friday, FBI Director James Comey dropped an epic bombshell into the election. Comey sent a letter to Congress that explained they found thousands of new emails on the laptop of Anthony Weiner, a former congressman they are investigating for sexting.
The discovery was a surprise because the laptop belongs to Weiner, who is not a member of Clinton's staff. However, it is obvious that Huma Abedin, who is Clinton's top aide, did use the computer at some point. Abedin is the now-estranged wife of Anthony Weiner.
So here are some questions and answers for you:
1. What's in the emails?
Answer: Nobody knows. The FBI did not have a warrant to search through the emails until Sunday night. Now they have a warrant, they will begin the proves of sifting through the trove of new emails. It is possible the emails are innocuous, consisting on yoga schedules and wedding plans. If this is the case, the FBI will probably make an announcement soon.
2. What happens if the FBI finds incriminating evidence?
Answer: Hillary Clinton could be indicted. It will depend on the evidence and the laws on the book at the time the emails were sent. Part of the reason Clinton escaped indictment the first time was because the original rules which governed security during her time in office were unclear.
3. How long will it take?
Answer: Probably weeks. We should not expect the process to end before election day. Many of the emails may be duplicates of those they already reviewed. However, others may be new and could shed new light on an old questions.
4. Will this impact the election?
Answer: Definitely, yes, but not by a whole lot. Most people have made up their minds by now. However, Clinton has probably lost some support among independents. The question is if her lead is strong enough to survive the loss. Most experts think so. Generally, news items like these take a few days to show up in the polls, we as this week progresses, we will see more clearly.
5. What happens if she gets elected and the FBI wants to indict her?
Answer: For people who want to see Clinton go to prison, they're likely to be disappointed. Assuming Clinton wins, the powers that be will probably apply the brakes to the existing investigation. The problem is the nation has never had a suspected felon under FBI investigation run for presidential election and win.

Our Constitution protects the president from prosecution. In the most serious cases, the Congress can vote for impeachment. If Clinton is impeached, she can be compelled to resign and then face prosecution. However, this is unlikely.

6. What are the odds the emails contain something serious?
Answer: The FBI thinks these are new emails, not previously examined. There are bound to be duplicates, but some new emails are probably present. Are these some of the emails that Clinton tried to hide by deleting and digitally bleaching her account? Time will tell.
It is too premature for anyone to draw conclusions from this development. Yet, there are some clues. If Clinton were innocent, then she should not show anxiety over these emails. If anything she should praise the development as a chance to clear he name. Instead, she has dodged questions about the development. She has also distanced herself from her top aide, Huma Abedin.
These are not the behaviors of a person who is worried about the FBI reading the contents of her spam folder.
