LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to the Pew Research Center, the United States' Hispanic population reached 57 million in 2015.

Since then, the Hispanic birth rate has fallen yet Latinos are still 54 percent of the total United States population.

The Star-Telegram reported a fractured Hispanic vote.

Many believe Democrats will get the Hispanic vote, particularly with Donald Trump's literal wall idea to keep illegals from crossing the border from Mexico into the United States.

Despite the wall, Trump insists he is gaining black and Hispanic support.

"Don't be surprised...if on November 8th, I get more African-American and Hispanic votes than anyone thought possible about a month ago."

While Trump's claim of increased Hispanic support is questionable, presidential campaigners continue to reach out to the Latino community.

Juan Hernandez, a Fort Worth Republican with a history of advising presidential candidates, stated: "The Latino vote is there for the picking. To be honest, we haven't traditionally voted in big numbers.

"We must get the Latino vote out there. If we did vote, we could determine the next president."

Allan Saxe, an associate political science professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, stated: "The Hispanic vote is becoming ever more critical given the discussion in this year's presidential election. It was always important but now more visible and highlighted."
