According to "Open the Books," a taxpayer watchdog organization, there are over 200,000 armed bureaucrats employed by the government. This includes armed IRS agents, and armed EPA agents.
The Small Business Administration has purchased weapons.
Even the National Ocean Atmospheric Administration has purchased guns and ammunition.
The Department of Health and Human Services has purchased $42 million worth of firearms. How this promotes human health has not been explained.
And even the Department of Education has armed itself.
None of these purchases are for an insignificant number of firearms. None of them are for testing the effect of weapons on global warming, or on making schools safer. And firearms don't do much to promote healthy business relationships.
There are so many armed federal agents across the various departments, they outnumber U.S. Marines.
The Marine Corps has 182,100 personnel on active duty. There are now over 200,000 armed federal agents.
Dozens of government agencies have armed agents. These agents undertake armed enforcement duties that usually involve entering structures and detaining suspects. It makes sense some of these agents will be armed.
But the same government that wants strict firearm legislation is also a major buyer of firearms. This seems hypocritical. And as the government arms itself, so too do the people.
Do we really need this level of militarization in America?
