White House admits Clinton is under criminal investigation, endorses her anyway

Will she face charges?

Perhaps it was a slip, but White House press secretary Josh Earnest characterized the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's email as "criminal." The slip occurred just an hour after President Obama endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. There is concern the endorsement could be a signal to the FBI to let Clinton off.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Just an hour after President Obama's glowing endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president, White House press secretary Josh Earnest characterized the FBI's look into Hillary Clinton's emails as a "criminal investigation."

Earnest was explaining to reporters that Obama's responsibility in this case is to keep his hands off the investigation. "That's what their responsibility is," he said. "And that's why the president, when discussing this issue in each stage, has reiterated his commitment to this principle that any criminal investigation should be conducted independent of any sort of political interference."

Republicans quickly seized on the choice of words, with Republican National Committee spokesperson, Michael Short said the White House's admission destroys her claim that the FBI investigation was "routine." He reminded the American people that Hillary's judgment is questionable.

Meanwhile, Obama praised Hillary's judgment in his endorsement of her, saying "He's seen her judgment," as though it were a praiseworthy quality.

The White House claims it has not discussed the investigation with Hillary Clinton.

Some have speculated that Obama's endorsement could serve as a signal for the FBI to let Clinton off the hook, but the point of Earnest's claim was to say that Obama does not interfere with these affairs. Yet, given the corrupt nature of American politics, this claim appears far-fetched.

Once the FBI completes its investigation, sometime within the coming weeks, it will be up tot he Attorney General to file an indictment against Hillary Clinton, assuming the FBI has found evidence of criminal wrongdoing. However, politics could interfere. Why would the Attorney General, Kamala Harris, who is a Democrat and believed to be a Clinton supporter, indict Clinton?

In addition to the FBI, a Grand Jury could also review the case and issue their own conclusions, which the Attorney General would have to consider. At this time, there is no evidence of a grand jury at work in tandem with the FBI, but since grand juries work very discreetly, this could be happening as we speak.

Hillary Clinton is the ultimate establishment insider. If there is a way for her to escape prosecution, she is guaranteed to find it. Time is also on her side. Legal proceedings move slowly and can be delayed. Once elected, assuming she wins, she can kill the investigation herself. Even if this does not happen, Obama could simply pardon her before he leaves office.

No matter what happens, it is unlikely that Hillary Clinton will face legal punishment for her crimes. The only punishment she will face will be the court of public opinion, and based on her poll results, that court appears to be quite lenient.
