LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - A good business does whatever it takes to keep its employees happy, so when US-based shoe manufacturer New Balance discovered the TPP could result in the loss of 900 of its employees, the company immediately protested.
Despite the Obama administration's claim that the Partnership is "a trade deal that helps working families get ahead," he conveniently forgot that slashing tariffs would make some imported products cheaper than American made products - such as New Balance shoes.
The oversight would lead to the exact opposite of Obama's claim to make a growing economy and strengthening of the middle class his top priority.
New Balance fought tooth-and-nail to combat the TPP despite international powers fighting for it.
As the battle began to heat up, a sudden silence from New Balance tipped the scales. No word on why the shoe company stopped its campaign against the agreement was released to the public - until now.
According to the Weekly Standard, the Department of Defense told New Balance they would consider a contract to offer recruits New Balance athletic shoes.
Such a generous offer turned New Balance's effort around and the company held hope for its employees - until it realized the Pentagon has been intentionally withholding any shoe orders.
When New Balance recognized the government intentionally mislead them, they decided to revive their protests.
Matt LeBreton, a New Balance VP, told The Boston Globe, "We swallowed the poison pill that is TPP so we could have a chance to bid on these contracts."
New Balance CEO Robert DeMartini told Fox News the company would "remain silent" on their TPP protests if the shoe contract went through, but explained "things just got quiet. We simply can't get through" to hold meetings with Defense officials. All meetings were abruptly canceled.
When asked about the shoe contract, LeBretton simply stated, "The chances of the Department of Defense buying shoes that are made in the USA are slim to none with Obama [a]s president."
