LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - The Florida State Attorney's office in Palm Beach has said it will not file charges against Corey Lewandowski, who is Donald Trump's campaign manager.
The incident, which occurred on March 8, and involved allegations of battery after he pulled away Breitbart reporter, Michelle Fields. Fields was trying to ask Trump a question.
Initially, Lewandowski and Trump both denied the allegations, but video evidence quickly showed that the altercation took place.
Despite the possibility of charges, Trump never fired Lewandowski. When asked why he said, "I don't want to ruin his life." Trump also added that he thought Lewandowski acted because of a security concern. "She had a pen in her hand, which Secret Service is not liking because they don't know what it is, whether it's a little bomb," Trump said.
Trump also added that he didn't fire Lewandowski despite calls from the other candidates to do so because that would have been the "politically correct" thing to do and, "I don't want to be politically correct, I want to be correct."
The prosecutor's office did work out an agreement with Fields where Lewandowski would apologize to her in exchange for dropping the case, but Lewandowski has not yet apologized.
Michelle Fields resigned from Breitbart a week after the incident occurred. She may now pursue a civil case against Lewandowski, according to various reports, but this is unconfirmed.
