LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - On ABC's "This Week," Republican presidential candidate Cruz admitted he plans to filibuster any Supreme Court nominee President Obama chooses to replace recently deceased Justice Antonin Scalia.

According to ABC News, Cruz believes Scalia's vacancy has had a "profound impact" on the Republican primary.

In Senator Cruz's eyes, Obama has become a "lame-duck president" who should not be given the responsibility of choosing who will replace Scalia.

"You know what?" Cruz asked, "The Senate is advising right now. We're advising that a lame-duck President in an election year is not going to be able to tip the balance of the Supreme Court.

"If liberals are so confident that the American people want unlimited abortion on demand, want religious liberty torn down, want the Second Amendment taken away, want veterans memorials torn down, want the crosses and Stars of David sandblasted off of the tombstones of our fallen veterans, then go and make the case to the people.

"...I don't think the American people want that. This is a 5-4 court -- the next election needs to be a a referendum on the court," Cruz continued. "People need to decide...

"This should be a decision for the people," Cruz repeated. "Let the election decide. If the Democrats want to replace this nominee, they need to win the election. But I don't think the American people want a court that will strip our religious liberties.

"I don't think the American people want a court that will mandate unlimited abortions on demand, a partial birth abortion with taxpayer funding and no parental notification and I don't think the American people want a Court that will write the Second Amendment our of the Constitution."
Prior to Cruz's fiery speech, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called for Scalia's seat to remain empty, which presidential hopeful Marco Rubio repeated on "This Week."

"Mitch McConnell has already made it very clear that we're not going to move forward until there is an election. And I think that's the right decision. The court can function with eight justices," Rubio stated. "Now, the President can go ahead and nominate whoever he wants; the Senate shouldn't move forward on it until after the election."

While Republican candidates supported voters' voices, the Democratic party has been pushing for a replacement. Senator Bernie Sanders believes Obama should act "as soon as possible" to replace Scalia.

"The idea that Republicans want to deny the President of the United States his basic constitutional rights is beyond my comprehension. So I will do everything that I can to make sure that when the President makes his nomination, the Senate goes forward," he said to CBS' "Face the Nation."

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton said: "The Republicans in the Senate and on the campaign trail who are calling for Justice Scalia's seat to remain vacant dishonor our constitution."

What do you think? Are Republicans dishonoring the Constitution or does the Democratic party support their Democratic President? Does either party have ulterior motives? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
