It seems that Senator Burris has some influential friends in the Culture of Death Lobby.

Right before the Holiday when America paused to honor those who have died in the Defense of our True Freedoms, Senator Roland Burris offered an amendment - in a closed Senate Armed Services Committee meeting - which will turn our military hospitals around the whole world into abortion mills. The personnel would be forced to provide abortions, to kill our first neighbors, children in the womb, for any reason, at any age or stage. The Burris amendment removes Section 1093(b)1 of Title 10 of the U.S. Code.

P>WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - Sen. Roland Burris is the Democrat from Illinois who replaced now President Barrack Obama in the United States Senate. His appointment was surrounded by controversy. It was caught up in the alleged appointment for favors debacle involving former Governor Rod Blagojevich who is now on trial for corruption.

It seems that Senator Burris has some influential friends in the Culture of Death Lobby.

The Senator's spokesman Jim O'Connor recently told an Anti-Right to Life reporter that the Senator was approached by the notorious NARAL Pro-Choice America and other Anti-Right to Life lobbyists, as well as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). They asked him to sponsor legislation which would repeal the long standing prohibition on killing children in the womb by abortion on military bases, both in the United States and Abroad.

The Senator agreed. His spokesman said that Burris was sensitive to the prospect that women serving in places like Afghanistan and Iraq could face difficult burdens. He noted "If you're not able to get access to services on base, you're at the mercy of whatever medical services are out there. It's a pretty dangerous scenario."  Of course, he is using one of the endless euphemisms for abortion, "services". How ironic. The Senator who claims to be concerned over the danger women face when they want to abort their children now wants to turn military hospitals into abortion mills. Certainly the children placed at risk - who have no-one to speak for them - will not be safe.

The timing of all of this is profane.

Code. In effect, this amendment will turn military hospitals in the United States and abroad into abortion clinics. It will require new equipment and more personnel to provide the lethal service.

This stealth move by Senator Burris passed by a vote of 15 - 12 in the committee. And for those who still think this is a predictably "partisan" vote, Senator Ben Nelson, a Democrat from Nebraska, broke ranks with his colleagues and voted against the amendment while Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, broke ranks with her colleagues and voted for it.

The letters "R" and "D" next to a candidate are not enough. We MUST insist that our elected representatives EXPLICITLY recognize, respect, secure and defend the first and fundamental Human Right to Life, Period.

Senator Burris smiled broadly when he explained his reasons for leading this nefarious undertaking which will remove the protections of our youngest friends and allow them to be killed at military hospitals. This will affect bases both in the United States and Abroad. He spoke of his concern for the 100,000 plus American service members and dependents living on bases overseas saying "It is critical that we provide the highest quality care..and that includes allowing women and their families the right to choose at facilities operated under the Department of Defense."

Same old tired verbal engineering. Abortion is not health care it is feticide. Where is the concern for the children who will be killed?

With Senator Burris' leadership, the Senate Armed Services Committee added this lethal repeal provision to the massive $760 billion defense spending bill, by a vote of 16 - 10. This was done on the very same evening that the same Senate Armed Services Committee approved the lifting of the so called "Don't Ask/Don't Tell" policy concerning homosexuals in the military.

The Cultural Revolution is alive and well and may soon arrive at US military bases around the world.

Senator Roger F. Wicker, a Republican of Mississippi is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. He addressed this lethal vote in an impassioned speech on the Senate floor, the day after the hearing. Here are just some of his comments which were placed into the record. They should be read by all who are properly outraged at this horrid turn of events:

"The committee yesterday decided to reverse this long-standing policy and to say that indeed abortions, for whatever reason, will be performed in these facilities that are paid for by taxpayer expense that are there for the care of our service members to keep them healthy and to repair their injuries. We're going to use those facilities for elective abortions. If this amendment stands -- and I guarantee you it will be challenged on the floor of the House and Senate, with separate amendments -- Members will be given a chance to vote on this separate issue.

"But if this stands, our military installations, Fort Bragg, Columbus Air Force Base, Keesler Air Force Base in my home state of Mississippi, their medical facilities will be able to be used for abortions, performed late term, abortions performed for purposes of sex selection, abortions performed for any reason. Abortion-at-will will be the requirement for our military installations and the medical facilities on those installations."

This Anti-Right to Life amendment, which will result in the killing of children in the womb on military bases, was drafted so as to require 60 votes to strip it from the overall legislation. It was intentionally woven into a complex piece of defense funding legislation. The legislation is necessary if we want to keep funding our troops and continue numerous defense projects which depend upon its passage. This was all done intentionally, under cover of darkness, and right before Memorial Day. Burris spokesperson told the same reporter: "It's an impossible bill to vote against."

What is needed is a massive, unceasing public outcry. For contact information for your United States Senator, Click Here.
