LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) -- In an obvious act of terror, a man has killed fifty eight people and wounded about 515 others, at a concert in Las Vegas. The act is the deadliest shooting in American history. The shooter broke out the window on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel to fire on people below for ten minutes, using a fully automatic weapon. When police breached his door, they found the shooter dead along with a cache of weapons.

The shooter has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from Mesquite, Nevada. They have not established a motive. The hotel was booked in advance, suggesting the attack was planned for some time. He had been staying in the room since Sept. 28.

Paddock's room was breached by a SWAT team, who entered the room to find him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Paddock's companion, Marilou Danley, has already been detained and questioned by police. They say she is not suspected of involvement.

Pope Francis has sent condolences to the victims, and has said he is praying for them. He called the shooting 'a senseless tragedy' and said he was 'deeply saddened' to learn of the shooting. The Pope also praised the work of first responders.

The brother of the shooter, Eric Paddock, said his family is dumfounded by the event. Eric described his brother as 'an ordinary guy,' and said their mother, who is 90, is in shock. The family said he does not have any known political or religious affiliation, and could not speculate on a motive.

The target of the attack was the Route 91 Country Music Festival. The annual festival featured artists Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Sam Hunt, and more. Aldean was onstage during the attack.

Thousands of people began running from the outdoor venue when the shooting started, then huddled in place as the bullets rained down. Most people had no cover, and were fully exposed to Paddock's fire. Only luck made the difference between life and death for hundreds of people.

Several videos show concertgoers fleeing and hiding as the automatic fire can be heard. Paddock fired long, sustained bursts into the crowd, pausing only to reload.

Photos show the dead, lying in groups where they were hit.

Officials are denying this attack is a terror attack, but it is obvious that the intent behind the shooting was precisely to inspire terror. The fact that the shooter was American and Caucasian, should not preclude anyone from labeling the attack what is truly is, a terrorist attack.
