LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - After ravaging through the Caribbean, leaving islands completely destroyed and claiming at least 25 lives, Irma has struck Florida.
Around 6.3 million people were told to evacuate their homes, both mandatory and voluntary orders. Many did just that, however, a lot of people stayed in place to brave out one of the biggest storms Florida has ever seen.
Billboards are seen ripped to shreds during Hurricane Irma.
The deadly hurricane has already left over one million people without power across the state and has claimed at least four lives.
"Pray, pray for everybody in Florida," Florida Governor Rick Scott stated on Fox News, according to the Daily Mail.
Hurricane Irma has left downtown Miami flooded.
The hurricane was downgraded once again to a Category 3 after being upgraded back to a Category 4 on Saturday night. The maximum sustained winds are standing at 120 mph and downtown Miami has been flooded.
Naples and other cities up the west coast now lay in fear of being Irma's next targets.
"Once this system passes through, it's going to be a race to save lives and sustain lives," stated Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) chief, Brock Long on Fox News.
President Trump remains in contact over the path of Hurricane Irma and over necessary preparations to respond to the storm.
"Everything I've asked out of the federal government, he's made sure he gave us," expressed Governor Scott of President Trump. "We're going to need a lot of help."
Those who are stuck in the eye of Hurricane Irma remain positive, but are also fearing for the worse.
"It was nothing like this, because Hurricane Andrew was a smaller, more compact hurricane, so you could get away from it," said Floridian Jacqueline Cobb, to Daily Mail.
According to Cobb, she received a code red tornado alert from Hurricane Irma.
"We're now on lockdown and we're not clear when we might be able to leave the building."
As the entire country watches Irma beat down on Florida, prayers are need more than ever. There is no knowing what the outcome will be until the storm rests.
Pray with us.
"Graciously hear us, O Lord, when we call upon You,
and grant unto our supplications a calm atmosphere,
that we, who are justly afflicted for our sins,
may, by Your protecting mercy, experience pardon.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen."
