Bella's miraculous life has only strengthened Rick and Karen's belief in the dignity of each and every life. Hon. Rick and Karen Santorum will receive the Saint Pio Award jointly.

He has been active among several local interfaith networks and is a recognized and respected figure in the metropolitan area community.   He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Washington in 1973 and was named Monsignor by Pope John Paul II in 1985. Prior to being appointed to lead Catholic Charities by Cardinal Donald Wuerl in July 2011, he served as pastor at three parishes, most recently at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, DC. In 2012, Washingtonian Magazine named him a "Washingtonian of the Year." On September 24, 2015, Father John welcomed Pope Francis to meet with and be among more than 500 people who were being helped by Catholic Charities, an iconic moment in the agency's history.
