Much of the media is non-religious, which may bias their reporting.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput told Hugh Hweitt, a Catholic conservative radio personality, that he is shocked at how people are treating Donald Trump. He also mentioned that he suspects a minority of the mainstream media has religious faith which impacts their reporting.

Archbishop Chaput of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia discussed media hostility to Donald Trump and how it is dividing Americans against one another.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) -- Archbishop Chaput told Hugh Hewitt, "It's just amazing to me how hostile the press is to everything the president does." Chaput was speaking on Hewitt's radio talk show.

The Archbishop continued, "I don't want to be partisan in my comments here, but it seems to me if we are really serious about our common responsibilities, we support the president, whether we accept everything he stands for or not, and wish him success rather than trying to undermine him."

Archbishop Chaput is commenting on something noticed by many other Americans. The overt hostility to the Trump administration is substantial. It is widespread in the media, and extends into schools and even the workplace and home. Many people reported losing friends as a result of the 2016 election.

Although Trump has made every effort to keep campaign promises and he was elected to pursue the agenda he outlined. Although he did not win the popular vote, he won the election by the rules agreed by all parties. He was supported by a surprising number of silent supporters who were not vocal and under-polled. He won legitimately, and he is now the president, like it or not.

Some have compared the treatment of Trump to the treatment of Obama by conservatives, but the two have no comparison. Conservatives did not run riot or shut down schools, streets and businesses over the election of Barack Obama. It seems the true color of the tolerant left is on full display as they show their intolerance to Donald Trump.

The situation is exacerbated by the biased reporting of the non-religious news media. Archbishop Chaput hypothesized that as few as a quarter of the media is religious. Another quarter is non-religious or atheist, per a survey by the Pew Research Center.

This lack of faith is likely a big part of the reason why the media is so hostile to President Trump.

President Trump is the fair and just winner of the election and he is not our president. If we divide ourselves along partisan lines on every issue, the nation will be weakened.

Americans have the right to disagree with their president. As the Archbishop pointed out, we have an obligation to disagree when they come down on the wrong side of moral issues. Otherwise, he is our president and he is owed our respect and loyalty. The world is watching us and they see our division. If America is going to enjoy the respect of the world, we need to show a united front.
