LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to Vocativ, the terrorist organization has a social media group called Secrets of Jihadis, where they posted a list late Wednesday night.
That list targeted thousands of U.S. churches, each named in the post.
One user with the name Abu Marya al-Iraqi called "for bloody celebrations in the Christian New Year" then announced lone wolves would be used to "turn the Christian New Year into a bloody horror movie."
The targeted churches appear to have been chosen from public directories spanning the nation.
Radical Islamists also use Telegram, an encrypted website and social media app, to teach lone wolves how to fight, assemble bombs and create weapons.
According to SITE Intelligence Group, ISIS released a statement Tuesday after claiming responsibility for Cairo's Church attack:
"Let all the disbelievers and apostates in Egypt and everywhere know that our war on polytheism is ongoing, and that the State of the Caliphate - with permission from Allah the Almighty - will continue to spill their blood and grill their bodies, so that there is no sedition and the religion is all for Allah."
The United States has been on high alert against acts of terror from the Islamic State and has been preparing for the possibility of attacks around the holidays for the past several months.
Please pray for safety, peace and protection for this Christmas and New Year.
