LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to new population estimates from the Census Bureau, racial and ethnic minorities made up 50.2 percent of babies under 1-year-old in 2015.

Though births were originally estimated to be predominantly white in upcoming decades, the growing number of minority births indicate the United States will no longer have a majority race within the next few decades.

The Census Bureau figures since 2011 show the steady climb of minority births.

In 2011, data indicated white baby births were the majority but two years later, those numbers were found to be inaccurate.

Estimates for the U.S. population in 2044-2055 originally led statisticians to believe there would be a larger white population than other minorities but with an increase of mixed-race marriages, minority births are now expected to increase.

Census Bureau data reflects children of multiple races and does not represent mixed-race mothers at the National Center for Health Statistics.

Regardless, America is quickly becoming a melting pot country that has no racial minority or majority - it simply is.
