LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to the IBTimes, the United Cyber Caliphate (UCC) released another "kill list."
At 8,000 names, the list is believed to be the longest the UCC has ever released.
The list was sent via the encrypted messaging app Telegram and included a message written in both English and Arabic.
The message instructed supporters to "follow" the people on the list and to "kill them strongly to take revenge for Muslims."
Most of the names belong to people living in the United States, with 1,445 in California, 643 in Florida, 341 in Washington, 333 each in Texas and Illinois and 290 in New York.
There were also 312 Canadian names and addresses and 69 in Australia. Thirty-nine names and addresses belong to people living in the UK and the remaining names featured citizens of Belgium, Brazil, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago.
The list includes government employees working for the State Department and Homeland Security but the majority of people are average citizens.
According to Gothamist, an FBI spokesperson said the agency has been contacting everyone on the list but the public is unable to check for their own names.
"The FBI routinely notifies individuals and organizations of information collected during the course of an investigation that may be perceived as potentially threatening in nature," the spokesperson reported. "Potential threats may relate to individuals, institutions, or organizations, and are shared in order to sensitize potential victims to the observed threat, and to assist them in taking proper steps to ensure their safety."
News3lv revealed former FBI agent, now a lawyer, Stuart Kaplan believes the threat of posting names is particularly alarming as "It's going to create some hysteria."
In light of the recent Orlando massacre, Kaplan believes "lone wold" attacks may become more prominent.
"If in fact a sympathizer gets ahold of this list and is readily able to identify you as being his neighbor and, then, decides (because they're a sympathizer) to go out and do something horrific to you, there is no way to calculate the potential or to prevent that."
