Aged 6 and 7, the boys were sent home with a letter from the superintendent.

Dewitt Elementary School authorities were alerted after a student reported seeing brothers with guns on the school bus, according to spokesperson Frank Shelton. The two brothers, ages 6 and 7, were accused of taking the guns, one of them loaded, to their school in Flat Lick, Knox County. Although no one was injured, both of them were sent home with a letter from the superintendent.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - According to Shelton, the confiscated handguns were temporarily placed in lock down, alarmed of the increasing rate of unintended and accidental fatal shootings between young children and their peers.

"It is a violation of law for students to be in possession of any weapons or objects that can be used to harm others. Please discuss this incident with your child and emphasize that it is against the law to bring weapons of any type to school," stated in the letter from the superintendent.

The note ended with a reminder to the parents to constantly check their children's school bags to avoid dangerous items being brought out of the home to school without their knowledge.

According to the Daily Mail, due to intervention of lobbyists in the government protecting their interests and their gun rights, more than 50 percent of the 259 accidental deaths by firearms among children ages below 15 were not included in the figurative report for the United States back in 2013.

With research carried out by The New York Times, there were cases observed where the deaths are be marked "homicide" rather than "accidental" death by the medical examiner, raising further questions regarding the collected statistics.

The figures were reportedly used by pro-gun National Rifle Association (NRA) in their campaign against the creation of gun "safe storage" laws, according to the newspaper.
