Abercrombie and Fitch employee reveals racial discrimination and sexual harassment at work

The popular clothing store faces discrimination troubles, again.

Over the past ten years, Abercrombie and Fitch has received a number of discrimination lawsuits; they even paid $40 million in settlement back in 2006. Just recently, an unnamed employee went out in the open and gave full information about the constant racial discrimination she has witnessed in the said flagship store.

Highlights

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - According to the female staffer, she had been recruited as a part-time sales person or "model" by 2 male models who have complimented her for her look, saying she would fit the bill as a model for Abercrombie and Fitch.

Abercrombie and Fitch's former CEO Mike Jeffries, who retired from his post just last December, used to pay visits at the flagship store. Every time his appearance is expected, the managers of the store would then start to show their discriminating attitudes.

The female staffer cited instances when the managers would only favor and retain the whitest, tallest, slimmest, and most flawless models on the floor for Jeffries to see.

What's worse is that, the African-American models would be sent home early before Jeffries would arrive at the store.

One of the black models called the "hotline of racism" number to complain about the discrimination incidents at the store. Unfortunately, her complaint was not entertained, as they have reasoned it out for no substantial evidence proving that the managers are racists and discriminating to their black employees.

One of the models in the store has actually been asked by the manager of the flagship store to wear a cashier's uniform before Jeffries would visit their shop as the manager finds the model not attractive enough to be considered an Abercrombie Fitch model. The female staffer also added that the first black employee the store hired 5 years ago is the only black employee they had in the shop.

The employee also noted that she was required to wear miniskirts and low rise shorts, which she had to bear together with the sexual harassment she got from their guy customers. The guys would be following her around, staring at her behind, saying nasty remarks.

In 2003, a lawsuit was filed against Abercrombie and Fitch for hiring only white people from certain fraternities and sororities in college schools for their sales floor jobs. The charges made indicate that Abercrombie and Fitch sticks to their "classic, American look," discriminating African-Americans, Asians, and Hispanics who applied for a job in their store. Most of them who applied for a job have been assigned to stockroom jobs and not on the sales floor, as these applicants don't project the "A & F look."
