CHICAGO, IL (Catholic Online) - For inexplicable reasons, a 14-year-old boy carried an unloaded .22 caliber pistol onto a South Side elementary school on Thursday afternoon. A student at the school reported seeing the boy with the gun at Hendricks Elementary Community Academy.

School staff found the boy and detained him in a classroom while police made an armed entry into the school around 3 p.m.

Police say the boy initially resisted efforts to search him, and had to be restrained. Police found the pistol in his boot, and it was thankfully unloaded. Police took the boy into custody and he has been cited as a juvenile for unlawful use of a weapon.
